Job description

Young people all over the world deserve a world-class science education.

In today’s digital age, it’s crucial for students to not only navigate the sea of information on social media but to become equipped with the critical thinking skills and tools needed to solve the big issues of tomorrow. Great science classrooms are about just that.

More than 1 in 3 Australian secondary schools use Stile’s science curriculum to explore and analyse the science behind the big issues facing us globally. Stile empowers teachers with everything they need to deliver a relevant, engaging and rigorous science education for their students with videos, lesson plans, questions, simulations, activities and more.

But we need your help, because there’s so much more we can do to support our hard working teachers.

We need your passion for pedagogy and expertise in school leadership to support school leaders in enhancing education through science classrooms across Australia.

There is a substantial and growing body of research demonstrating that the provision and use of high quality curriculum materials in schools has a significant positive impact on student outcomes. The effect is amplified by specific, directed professional learning to support teachers in the adoption of high impact teaching strategies incorporated into those high quality materials.

As the Education Leadership and School Improvement Consultant at Stile, you'll play a pivotal role in empowering school leaders, including Heads of Departments (HODs), leadership teams, learning specialists and principals, to enhance school performance and elevate student learning outcomes in science.

You will passionately advocate for the transformative benefits of integrating Stile’s high quality instructional materials into schools, emphasising improved student outcomes, strategic alignment, and teacher well-being.

Leveraging your deep understanding of educational priorities and challenges, you will develop tailored offerings and provide strategic guidance to school leadership, fostering engagement and maximising Stile's impact. Through personalised coaching, strategic planning consultations, and continuous support, you’ll empower schools to leverage Stile effectively, resulting in increased engagement and scalable solutions for broader educational impact.

Here are some of the things you’ll be doing to help revolutionise science education:
  • Visiting schools and discussing science education with like-minded leaders.
A lot of your time will be spent on the road, visiting Stile schools and working with teacher leaders to help them ignite change internally.
  • Building a community of brilliant science educators.
Building relationships with those in the local STEM community is key to being successful in this role and you’ll be a regular at local events and conferences. Once you have established a network, you’ll even find yourself hosting events to unite leaders within the community to share ideas, getting sucked into a nerdy conversation or even presenting about these topics on a regular basis.
  • Developing impactful ways to support schools to implement high quality instructional materials.
High quality instructional materials have a big impact on student learning, but asking teachers to change practice is hard. You know how to support schools and teachers through this process, and you’re passionate about improving science education for students as a result. This could include developing coaching programs and initiatives to bolster support for school leaders, crafting strategies and products tailored to their needs and goals You’ll work closely with the rest of the Stile team to develop and implement these initiatives to facilitate change and support schools.
  • Continuing to hone your own skills and knowledge.
We’re life-long learners at Stile, so we’re always looking to improve our practice. You’ll find yourself reading up on the latest negotiation strategies, or learning about the latest trends in education technology. You can also expect to spend time peer-reviewing work with your colleagues, ensuring we’re always delivering the best possible service.

If you’re an education leader looking to have a broad impact outside of the day-to-day of school life for a while, this might just be the perfect role.

The DetailsAbout you
  • You have a rich background in education perhaps as an Head of Department or Principal, and a passion for driving positive change within schools, ideally in the field of science education.
  • You have experience working closely with school leaders, including Heads of Departments, leadership teams, learning specialists, and principals, to enhance school performance and elevate student learning outcomes.
  • You ideally have a strong understanding of growth coaching frameworks
  • You have a deep understanding of educational priorities and challenges, and can talk to these with passion and knowledge
  • You have the ability to provide strategic guidance to school leadership
  • You have the creativity and strategic acumen necessary to develop coaching programs, initiatives, and campaigns that effectively support school leaders

At Stile we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with all of the points above, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

Hours and location

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Melbourne, Australia, with expected travel averaging about one week-long trip per month. When you’re not on the road, you will be working from our Head Office in the Paris end of Melbourne CBD.

Overall we’re an “in-person” culture (we enjoy working together face to face), but we’re also flexible. There will be opportunities to work from home 1-2 days per week, or remotely for periods, once you settle in.

Life at Stile

Stile is run by the people who started and own the company. We’re here to build something real and enduring. A company that in years to come we look back on and are proud of what we achieved, and how we achieved it.

Importantly, this is a place for people that care deeply about education. Joining Stile is not leaving teaching, it’s working in another part of the system, where you can have a broad impact. Quite a few of our teachers have ended up back in the classroom following a stint at Stile. Other educators on the Stile team offer their CRT services to local schools – we like our team to stay close to the chalk-face.

  • Colleagues worth working with. You’ll join an amazing 70-strong team of teachers, scientists, artists, and engineers. We hold ourselves, and each other, to a high standard, and love what we do.
  • Working on something that really matters. In partnership with teachers, we’re coaching students to become problem solvers and critical thinkers. We believe that with a strong command of science, tomorrow’s citizens and leaders are set up to sort the misinformation from the facts.
  • Support always. Stile is its people, and it’s important we are creating an environment where you’re supported, happy and able to do your best work. We have strong management and feedback frameworks, and a great benefits program check it out here Stile benefits
  • A fantastic office environment. We love in-person collaboration, and have built an office to facilitate just that. It has a huge central kitchen, lots of places to put your feet up to work and even end of trip facilities if you ride in.
  • Flexibility. We expect that you work hard, but you’ll have flexible hours and you’re the master of your own schedule.
  • Your own professional development. We’re lifelong learners here at Stile. Alongside teaching you everything you need to know to succeed in this role, we provide a generous PD allowance.
