This is a Permanent Part-time (22.8 hours per week – 0.6 EFT) opportunity based in Hamilton, VIC within our MacKillop Education, Hamilton VIC (TRC) Program.

Position Purpose:

The central goal of MacKillop Family Services is to support, to foster hope and to promote justice for children, young people, and their families, particularly those who experience distress, disadvantage, and abuse. Education is central to that goal.

MacKillop Education supports children and young people in out-of-home care to:

  • re-engage in education
  • experience success in learning
  • develop the knowledge, skills and understanding to be active and engaged members of their community

The education specialist will work closely with MacKillop’s therapeutic residential care staff, the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and schools in the area, to enhance the learning outcomes of each child being supported.

This position is part of the MacKillop Education and Engagement Programs Team and reports to the Canine Assisted Learning Program Education Specialist.

Primary Objectives:

  • To improve learning outcomes for children and young people who are living in residential care.
  • To work collaboratively, with different stakeholders to ensure that each young person experiences success in their learning.
  • To provide education support that meets the individual needs - academic, social and emotional - of each young person.

Key Selection Criteria:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Appropriate experience and qualifications in education
  • Experience working with children and young people who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education
  • A sound understanding of how trauma impacts on learning
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and reviewing individual education plans
