Salesian College is a Child Safe School in accordance with Ministerial Order 1359
Salesian College provides employees, volunteers and clergy with regular and appropriate opportunities to develop their knowledge of, openness to and ability to address child safety matters. This includes induction, ongoing training and professional learning in accordance with Ministerial Order 1359 to ensure that everyone understands and is compliant in their professional and legal obligations and responsibilities, and the procedures for reporting suspicion of child abuse and neglect.
POSITION
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct psychologist assessments of students.
• Plan evidence-based interventions.
• Implement and review processes for referral, assessment , communication and monitoring of targets.
• Provide support to the school leaders in preparing applications for special consideration
KEY DUTIES
• Conduct educational and psychological assessments and diagnosis in all areas of child and adolescent development.
• Plan evidence-based interventions in collaboration with other staff, relevant professional, students and parents.
• Provide support to the school leaders in preparing applications for special consideration.
• Provide professional learning and information to build capacity of the College and families to improve students’ learning and developmental outcomes.
• Ensure ongoing professional development and continuous improvement.
• Liaise with other multidisciplinary staff and service providers (speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists).
• Implement and review processes for referral, assessment, communication and monitoring of targets.
• Working with the Learning Diversity Learning Leader to ensure all National Consistent Collection of Data on Students with Disability (NCCD) requirements are being met.
• Ensure accurate and ethical maintenance and storage of records.
• Other duties as directed by the Learning Diversity Learning Leader or Principal.
SKILLS, COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential requirements:
• Relevant tertiary qualifications.
• Registration as a Psychologist (general) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
• Have a valid and current Working with Children Check clearance
• Have a commitment to Catholic values
Desirable requirements:
• Endorsement as an Educational and Developmental Psychologist
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
The successful applicant will demonstrate evidence of:
1. A capacity to understand and animate Catholic identity, Salesian charism and College values in all aspects of College life.
2. A commitment to Child Safety and the welfare of young people and a strong knowledge and understanding of Child Safety legislation and responsibilities
3. Experience in an educational or clinical setting working with children and adolescents.
4. Experience in providing evidence-based interventions with an emphasis on academic support and enrichment.
5. Experience in administering and interpreting cognitive, behavioural and educational assessments.
6. Ability to develop student learning plans to be utilised by classroom teachers.
7. Highly developed communication skills to engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community
