The Role
The Regional Nursing Advisor (RNA) works with considerable independence and is accountable for improving and overseeing clinical governance and nursing practices (incl. providing technical nursing policy advice) to ensure best nursing practices are being delivered across Joint Health Unit Southern NSW (JHU SNSW).The successful RNA candidate will have the ability to champion contemporary and comprehensive clinical governance systems, processes, and outcomes for Nursing Services across the region. This will include overseeing, evaluating, and reporting on patient safety practices, quality improvement initiatives, health care standards, and consumer feedback. They must also have sound risk management skills.Candidates must be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes for patients, other team members, and supervising staff.
They must have effective communication skills in order to build and maintain relationships with a network of internal and external stakeholders.Finally, as a senior technical advisor, the RNA must have the ability to provide strong leadership and expert professional advice to JHU SNSW nursing staff. This includes using their skills to promote efficiency and drive innovation initiatives that support nursing best practice and patient focused care.About our Team
The EL 1Regional Nursing Advisor (RNA) position is part of Headquarters Joint Health Unit – Southern NSW (HQ JHU-SNSW) and is based within ACT Health Centre (ACTHC), Duntroon (Canberra). There are three health centres and one clinic across the region, consisting of ACTHC, Bungendore Health Outreach Service (BHOS), Wagga Health Centre (WAGHC) and Kapooka Health Centre (KAPHC). The staff in HQ JHU-SNSW and within the health centres across the region are a blended workforce of military, contract and APS personnel working together as one team.As a key leadership position in the unit, the successful candidate will be working with a multidisciplinary health professional team involving GPs/medical officers, nurse practitioners, registered and enrolled nurses, physiotherapists, dentists, mental health clinicians, occupational rehabilitation coordinators, health clerks and an inpatient facility. The RNA will be expected to network and provide expert advice on a range of nursing clinical skills/issues and support clinical governance and organisational requirements.
The position reports directly to the Commanding Officer (CO) and be will be supported from a technical perspective from the Clinical Advisory Nurse Lead situated within the Directorate of Clinical Governance- Joint Health Command).The RNA will be required to travel between Defence bases within Canberra (ACTHC and BHOS) and Wagga Wagga (RAAF Wagga and Kapooka). A Defence vehicle will be provided for all travel.Our Ideal Candidate
The successful applicant will demonstrate extensive nursing experience, ideally (although not essential) with a Defence background or previous experience working in a Primary Health Care environment within Defence. You will apply critical thinking skills and capability to drive nursing improvements and be able to support nurses working at their top of scope. The role will be required to implement a number of key priorities including the areas of workforce, governance, model of service delivery, data and reporting.The successful applicant will have experience in managing, developing and mentoring/training staff. The successful applicant will work within a regional team whilst applying a structured and nationally consistent service, as directed by policy and their technical supervisors.
