The Role
In this highly visible, role you will build strong relationships with domestic and international government and industry partners. You will contribute to the expansion of an Australian industrial base and facilitate collaboration, development and sharing of advanced Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance technologies.

Use your excellent interpersonal, analytical and diplomatic skills to lead a team who influence strategic and international policy through a range of domestic and international dialogues, committees, and associated fora.

It’s an exciting environment where no two days are the same, but as an EL1 Strategic Policy Officer you can expect to:
  • Lead a team responsible for delivering the Taskforce's strategic and international policy engagement objectives.
  • Drive the development of strategy, planning and engagement outcomes to support the establishment of an Australian industrial guided weapons capability. Your engagement will be informed by close collaboration with Defence stakeholders and you will help identify and implement solutions to risks impacting the Taskforce's outcomes.
  • Manage the preparation of timely and quality ministerial and cabinet submissions regarding the GWEO Enterprise.
  • Represent, advocate and negotiate on behalf of the Taskforce to achieve strategic domestic and international outcomes.
  • Manage and develop positive stakeholder relationships to progress innovative initiatives within Defence and externally with government, industry, academia and international partners.
  • Support and mentor team members; recognising strengths, aligning complementary skills and allocating resources in a manner that delivers results.
About our Team
Located within the Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance (GWEO) Enterprise Task Force, Joint Capabilities Group (JCG), the GWEO Strategic Policy and International Engagement Directorates drive the planning, stakeholder engagement and public narrative for the multi-billion dollar GWEO program.

This complex undertaking is a result of the Australian Government's commitment to the securing Australia's guided weapons supply chain, including through domestic weapons manufacture. Our international and industry partners are crucial to program's development and implementation.

You will work in a diverse team of ADF and APS (including relevant State and Territory governments, federal government departments and Australian Embassies) to facilitate, negotiate and implement activities to deliver Government's Guided Weapons production priority.

Working in the GWEO Taskforce is fast paced, exciting and directly supports Defence’s mission to defend Australia and its National interests.
