The Role
The Workforce Planning Director is responsible for developing and shaping the workforce strategy for the JOC Group under Defence guidelines and frameworks, together with the planning and management of the workforce within JOC Group.

The role contributes to defining the business objectives and creating evidence-based workforce strategies, organisational structures and workforce plans required to support and enable effective and efficient activities, actions and operations (OAA).

The functions partner with the JOC Leadership Group and Branches to proactively identify capability and capacity requirements to manage the Australian Public Service and Australian Defence Force establishment and posting cycles.

From an operational perspective, the function delivers customer-focused human resources services to optimise the employment life-cycle experience at an individual and organisational level.

The Workforce Planning team is a small, dynamic team that work collaboratively in developing and shaping the workforce strategy for the JOC group under Defence guidelines and frameworks.

To succeed in this role you must have personal drive and integrity with the ability to:
  • Contribute expert advice and an industry wide workforce planning and management perspective to organisation resource and budget planning.
  • Contribute expert knowledge of service delivery models and labour market trends to leadership discussions on workforce strategies, based on a concept of workforce management that includes APS, ADF, contractors, consultants, and external service providers.
  • Partner with senior leaders e.g. CJOPS/DCJOPS/PSOs to create a compelling narrative for change and to lead and influence change activities across the JOC Group.
  • Drive innovation in workforce strategies to mitigate workforce risks, including the development of workforce design options and reprioritisation as necessary.
