The Department of Defence, Joint Systems Division, Land Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems Branch (LC4S Branch), LC4S Sustainment SPO (SustSPO) is seeking an Executive Level (EL2) Product Director (PD) to provision an end-to-end sustainment services offering of our deployable data and voice communications equipment to our nation’s armed forces Land C4 Capability Systems:
- Battlefield Telecommunications Network (BTN);
- Tactical Communications Network (TCN);
- Battle Management System (BMS); and
- Deployable Information Environment (DIE).
The PD is accountable for highly complex work that have strategic, political or operational (real world, life and death) significance including:
- Influencing and developing product management strategies, plans, risks policies, priorities and operational practices in support of Defence objectives
- Liaising with multiple stakeholders internally (primarily Army’s Capability Manger representative) to define and ensure all Key Performance Indicators are met and externally (various Defence Industry suppliers) execute against their responsibilities and most importantly ensuring that end-users of the products, that is, those defending our nation are kept in a strong line of sight with respect to any decision making
- Management of a team of approximately 150 persons made up of Australian Public Servants (APS), Australian Defence Force (ADF) and Contracted personnel; and
- Enabling delivery of sustainment outcomes.
About our Team
The Joint Systems Division acquires and provides through-life support to a range of command and control systems, communication systems, tactical interoperability systems, and electromagnetic warfare systems.
The Land Command, Control, Communications and Computer Systems Branch (LC4S Branch) under Joint Systems Division (JSD) is responsible for the acquisition and sustainment of information technology used by Australia’s Defence Force both here in Australia and in the many theatres of operation in which Australia is currently involved in to enhance combat effectiveness through the application of information technology.
LC4S Branch delivers:
- Computer applications that aid in the planning and conduct of military operations;
- Military geographic information systems; and
- IT infrastructure used by the military on deployment and is responsible for acquiring and sustaining Command and Support Systems, Intelligence and Military Geospatial capabilities and providing deployed command support system information technology.
- Battlespace Communications (CA31)

- Command & Intelligence System (CA40). SustSPO’s mission is to provide end-to-end sustainment services offering in support of our nation’s armed forces Land C4 Capability Systems

You are a refined, highly experienced, agile and innovative product manager, seeking to leave a legacy by ensuring an enduring capability through sustainment of the Products in support primarily of Army’s delivery of decisive joint effects. You inspire a sense of purpose and direction in your team, build, sustain effective relationships both internally and with external stakeholders including professional associations, service providers and other Government agencies, and of course Defence industry to deliver Australia current and future sustainment outcomes.
You will be able to:
Lead a team of up to 150 experts, managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows and evaluating business outcomes with some staff located in Canberra and Melbourne to deliver sustainment outcomes.
- Manage the sustainment program; coordinating delivery of capability into service, transition to in-service management/sustainment, and withdrawal of capability.
- Provide strategic advice and guidance to management and stakeholders, and provide subject matter expertise in Product/Asset/Project Management and Systems Engineering within the context of the Defence Capability Lifecycle.
- Provide leadership and professional development support to enable skills uplift to meet the changing business demands of Army Headquarters in response to the changing geostrategic landscape.
