The Team
On 28 March 2022, the Australian Government announced the establishment of the Cyber and Critical Technology Intelligence Centre, led by ONI.
The establishment of multi-agency, and multi-disciplinary, centre reflects the increasing importance of cyber and critical technologies across economies and societies, and will enable the NIC to harness opportunities offered by emerging technologies.
Specifically, the centre aims to foster collaboration with non-government R&D partners, helping to fund, shape and deploy advanced science, research and technology to build the nation’s resilience to evolving threats.
The centre will position Australia and the NIC to respond to the rapidly evolving challenges in the cyber and technology landscape through:
- Distilling intelligence priorities;
- Providing clear and informed assessments to senior decision makers on cyber and technology issues;
Building partnerships within and outside of government; and funding, shaping and deploying cutting-edge science, research and technology to deliver better capabilities into the future.

Our Research Leads deliver a range of programs that shape and apply discovery research, high risk-high problem solving, emerging science and innovation to deliver insight and cutting-edge capabilities for critical security and intelligence challenges.
You will facilitate systematic engagement, collaboration and partnerships between governments, academia and the private sector.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the operation and continued development of the NIC Research Program on behalf of the National Intelligence Community (NIC).
- Regularly engaging with NIC subject matter experts (SMEs) and liaising with Australian academia and research service providers.
- Co-ordinating and supporting NIC agency science and technology forums and representatives to set strategic direction and disseminate program outputs.
- Detailed liaison with academics undertaking NIC sponsored research in order to keep NIC forums, NIC SMEs and international counterparts informed of insights, progress and outlooks.
- Delivering an annual Research Symposium to disseminate Research Program outputs to the NIC.
- Monitoring and analysis of programmatic status and the development of potential policy and program development options.
- Reporting periodically to relevant governance committees.
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate:
- Proven experience applying post-graduate research and expert understanding according to government or corporate strategic interests at an operational level.
- Outstanding representational and communication skills, and the ability to foster and maintain collaborative connections between academia and government.
- An ability to proactively solve problems to enhance administrative capabilities and ensure the delivery of program objectives.
- An ability to work constructively within a team, exemplify resilience, use sound judgement and adapt in a shifting and ambiguous environment.
