AHL hostels are like a home away from home for people needing to travel for access to services or for work and education opportunities. They provide comfortable, culturally safe and affordable accommodation, three meals a day and a welcoming environment for those who stay.
The Opportunity
This is an opportunity to directly oversee the operations of AHL’s hostels in WA, SA and Alice Springs which provide a safe place to stay for over 1,200 men, women and children each day, many of who are traveling hundreds of kms from home.
As a very hands-on role, you will travel regularly to the hostels in your region meaning you have the opportunity to build face to face relationships with your staff on the ground and see the direct impact AHL and its team has on First Nations people and communities.
The Role
As Director of Frontline Services for WA, SA and Alice Springs, you will lead a small Operations Team supporting them to effectively, efficiently and successfully manage their hostels and team.
A customer focussed approach is a core value of AHL and you will have responsibility to positively influence and contribute to ensuring all team members are focused on meeting residents’ needs.
Reporting to the General Manager Operations, you will provide high level advice and briefings on local issues.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Promoting AHL services to the community to drive occupancy rates and meet occupancy targets
- Accountability for reservation income including enforcement of the “No Pay, No Stay” policy
- Managing the budget for the individual hostels and region
- Managing complaints and critical incidents
- Building staff capability, implementing strategies to engage, develop and retain high performing staff
- Ensuring appropriate management of hostel assets and property
- Ensuring a continued understanding of the impact of external influences on services while developing solutions to mitigate these
Success in this role requires strong management and leadership experience, commitment and passion for servicing First Nations communities, flexibility to travel regularly, and willingness to work ‘on the ground’.
Experience in accommodation, health, education and or medical service delivery is required to succeed in this role and you and will need proven success in developing teams capable of delivering high quality customer service.
You must have an in-depth understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and issues affecting First Nations peoples and need to be able to communicate sensitively and effectively with First Nations peoples.
You will also have:
- A track record in successful relationship development and management of strategic partnerships
- Experience in financial management, budget control and reporting
- Qualifications in Mental Health, Social Work, Community Development, Hospitality Management, Residential Facilities Management, Education or other related fields
- Experience in the Government sector will be highly regarded
This role is a fulltime, permanent opportunity and can be based in Perth, Adelaide or Alice Springs.
- $124,498 - $127,769 + 15.4% Super
- Pending the outcome of the AHL’s Enterprise Agreement, employees will receive salary increases
