JOIN KOBI'S TEAM
The office of Kobi Shetty MP has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic person to join our small and passionate team as a Constituent Engagement specialist. This is a 4 day/week permanent part-time role based in Kobi's electorate office.
The electorate office is the direct link to NSW State Parliament for local constituents in the seat of Balmain, advocating on their behalf to various government and non-government agencies to deliver progressive, inclusive outcomes for the whole community.
About the position
The primary focus of the Electorate Officer is to ensure that constituent enquiries are handled promptly and respectfully, that constituents are informed and engaged with Kobi's work, and that Kobi and her team are fully supported by the electorate office.
The Electorate Officer is responsible for responding to constituent enquiries, maintaining an inclusive and accessible office, and providing crucial support to the Member and Senior Electorate Officers across a range of disciplines including policy and communications.
The role requires some after hours and weekend work for which an annual All Incidence of Employment Allowance is paid. The position is four days per week.

Key responsibilities
  • Maintain excellent constituent relations by responding to enquiries promptly and respectfully, including email correspondence, face-to-face interactions, phone liaison, diary management and drafting of written correspondence;
  • Maintain an inclusive and accessible “front of house” and assist with maintaining the electorate office as a comfortable and inclusive workspace;
  • Assist the Local Member and electorate office team with local events and community engagement opportunities;
  • Support the production of internal and external communications and publications, and distribution of communication materials;
  • Support the Member and her team in the development of policy responses to local issues; and
  • Provide administrative support to the Member and Senior Electorate Officers.
Selection criteria
Essential * Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to respectfully interact with constituents, liaise with community groups, government and non-government organisations
  • Strong writing skills including the ability to prepare formal correspondence, briefing notes and communication materials
  • Demonstrated superior organisational skills and attention to detail, to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Demonstrated capacity to exercise sound judgement, ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues, while performing at a high standard under limited supervision and within a team environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to the core principles of the Greens and an interest in, and understanding of, the Australian political context and Australian parliamentary procedures and processes
Desirable * Knowledge of the inner west and the key issues that impact our local area
  • Experience in use of social media, websites and digital communication tools
  • Experience managing volunteers
  • Experience in community organising and/or campaigning
