Alpine MDF Industries is a large wood processing facility located at Wangaratta in North East Victoria offering permanent employment for over 140 local people.
Alpine’s core business is manufacturing Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) for many uses in the construction, and related, industries and is distributed and sold nationally in Australia. Complimenting the core business, Alpine MDF has established a re-manufacturing business on the same site where core products are reprocessed into specific building products such as pre-painted skirting, architraves, door and window components and decorative wall lining panels.
The Company has invested heavily in upgrading the re-manufacturing department in the last 2 years with the construction of over 4,000m2 of new factory and warehouse space. This is to house new state-of-the-art plant and equipment that will enable our ability to add value to our raw product.
Your Purpose
This full-time position is responsible for assisting the Electrical Engineering Manager in continuously improving plant availability and production efficiency by coordinating and enhancing electrical maintenance activities. This role involves overseeing electrical maintenance activities, developing preventive maintenance procedures, ensuring equipment safety, liaising with manufacturers, managing equipment and spare parts, being hands on as required, and promoting a culture of safety and efficiency.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Supervise and schedule all site electrical maintenance activities, optimizing resources, and minimizing downtime;
- Apply appropriate investigative techniques to seek information that identifies problems and opportunities. Challenge system shortcomings and work towards optimum performance, refining processes and adding value to productivity;
- Coach electrical tradesmen, encourage a team environment, and foster the development of skills and confidence;
- Price, order, and maintain electrical equipment and spares as needed to support maintenance activities;
- Assist operators and electrical tradesmen in diagnosing the causes of equipment problems and provide technical advice as needed;
- Train electrical tradesmen in the performance of on-the-job tasks, promoting skill development and confidence;
- After-Hours Assistance: Be available for after-hours assistance when required to address urgent electrical issues.
To be successful in the role:
- Trade qualified Electrician, or similar trade qualification with experience in a similar role;
- Ability to drive continuous improvement;
- Leadership and supervisory experience;
- Good Interpersonal skills;
- Sound knowledge of manufacturing OH&S requirements;
- Analysis and problem-solving skills;
- Computer literate, Microsoft Office Suite;
- Instrumentation and DC Drive experience;
- Knowledge of PLC systems or willingness to upgrade knowledge;
- HV Operator or willingness to upgrade knowledge;
- CPR and First Aid Certified or willingness to obtain prior to commencement;
- Available to work flexible hours when required.
