About the Role
TasRail is seeking applications from suitably experienced and qualified Electricians to join our Asset Management team based at our Launceston Depot. For the successful candidate, we are able to provide a permanent, full-time role working 4 x 10 hours shifts each week.
The primary objective of this position is to maintain and repair TasRail’s electrical assets with a focus on rolling stock and potential to diversify with competencies in, signals, plant and equipment, as well as Company facilities. Locomotive systems include a diverse range of electrical components, from PLC control systems to high voltage A/C alternators and DC traction motors. The role ensures that these assets are maintained in accordance with the required standards.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Diagnose and remedy faults on train equipment and locomotives.
- Undertake preventative maintenance and/or repairs to all train equipment and locomotives.
- Modify existing train equipment.
- Operate and maintain workshop equipment.
- Operate computer equipment and input data.
- Perform routine clerical duties.
- Undertake all work in accordance with the relevant Maintenance Instructions, service instructions and test procedures as set down by TasRail or component manufacturer and any other specified technical documentation; and
- Under supervision, conduct the programmed and un-programmed maintenance of all signalling equipment.

- Formal Trade Certificate (A Grade Electrical Licence) deemed by TasRail to be relevant to listed core tasks/competencies
- Current Category One Medical Assessment (or the ability to obtain) as per the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers
- Current Drivers Licence (C Class)

You will need to ensure you are able to meet and maintain medical criteria for a safety critical worker health assessment (Category 1) as prescribed by the National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers. The successful candidate will be subject to a pre-employment medical and a national police check.
This includes drug and alcohol screens, colour vision tests and assessments to determine risks associated with cardiac health and sleep apnoea.
