ABOUT THE POSITION

The Electronics EngineeringTeam Leader reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for leading the Electronics team in the creation and development of product concepts. The incumbent will be required to lead the development of next-generation products while managing projects and resources, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
 
Direct reports are the Electronics Engineer and Senior Electronics Engineer.
 
The incumbent is responsible for:

  • Collaborate with senior management to define the strategic direction of the Electronics Engineering department.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of Electronics Engineers.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of Electronics Engineering projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and timelines.
  • Use software to perform circuit analysis, run simulations, create schematic drawings, and produce wiring diagrams.
  • Implement modifications to existing designs and prototypes based on performance in quality tests and customer feedback.
 
Key Relationships/Interactions
Internal: Direct Report Relationships
  • Engineering Manager - keep Manager informed with relevant electronic design development information and decision-making process. Seek guidance where required on relevant project-related issues that need to be solved. Be transparent and keep manager informed with information relevant to the NPI process (new product development process).
 
Delegations
  • Delegated Level 5 in accordance with LFG Delegation of Authority Document

Performance Development
  • The incumbent will be required to participate in the LFG Performance Review & Development Program which will include a regular review of the incumbent’s performance against the responsibilities and key result areas associated with their position and a requirement to demonstrate appropriate behaviours which reflect the LFG Values and strategic direction.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Management
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, scope, and deliverables.
  • Efficiently allocate resources, including personnel and equipment, to optimize project outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Electronics Engineering workflow.
  • Provide Senior Management with regular updates on project progress, resource needs, and potential challenges.
  • Ensure that all Electronics Engineering deliverables meet high-quality standards, conform to industry regulations, and are free from design flaws.
  • Implement rigorous testing and validation processes to validate the functionality and reliability of electronic systems.
  • Proactively identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Liaise with suppliers, identifying new opportunities and supply chain issues.
 
Hardware Design
  • Oversee/Lead the creation of detailed and comprehensive schematic diagrams for electronic systems, ensuring accuracy and adherence to design specifications.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of schematic designs, considering factors such as signal integrity, power distribution, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
  • Maintain comprehensive and well-organized documentation for hardware designs, including design specifications, test plans, and validation reports.
  • Oversee/Lead the selection of electronic components, considering factors such as performance, availability, and cost.
  • Validate and qualify components through testing and analysis, ensuring they meet the required specifications and quality standards.
  • Ensure hardware designs comply with relevant industry standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with regulatory affairs teams to facilitate the certification process for electronic products.
 
Programming
  • Oversee/Lead the development of embedded software/firmware for microcontrollers, ensuring efficient code execution and system functionality.
  • Design and implement communication protocols for data exchange between electronic components and systems.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for embedded software, including unit testing, integration testing, and system-level testing.
  • Utilize debugging tools and methodologies to identify and resolve software-related issues.
 
PCB Layout
  • Oversee/Lead the PCB layout process, optimizing component placement, signal routing, and thermal management.
  • Ensure proper grounding and shielding techniques are employed to minimize noise and interference.
  • Oversee/Conduct peer design review for risk mitigation.
  • Liaise with PCBA contractors from prototyping to mass production.
 
Prototyping
  • Oversee/Lead the creation of hardware prototypes, leading iterative design cycles to refine and improve electronic systems.
  • Work closely with prototype manufacturing teams to ensure the timely and accurate production of hardware prototypes.
 
Essential Criteria:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in electronic design and development, including hardware and firmware.
  • Experience with Microcontrollers (preferentially Microchip).
  • Experience designing PCB layout with Altium Designer.
  • Experience with GIT source control.
  • Working knowledge of product compliance within the Automotive and Military market.
  • Sets high standards of performance to ensure a quality end product for our customers.
  • In‐depth knowledge of Circuit Design, Modelling, and Simulation.
  • Competent in C programming language.
