About the Role

The Embedded Hardware Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing electronic hardware components and systems for embedded applications. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that meet project requirements and industry standards. 

About You

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hardware design, digital and analog circuitry, MCU application coding and proficiency in relevant tools and technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop Embedded Hardware systems, including schematic capture, component selection and PCB layout.
  • Ensure designs meet project requirements, performance specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Design and analyze digital and analog circuits for embedded applications including microcontrollers, sensors, power management and communication interfaces (eg Ethernet, CAN BUS, UART, SPI, I2C)
  • Design the embedded application software/firmware architecture and are able to implement through low-level I/O programming.
  • Build test hardware prototypes to validate design concepts and performance. 
  • Conduct thorough testing and troubleshooting to identify and resolve hardware issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, firmware engineers and product managers, to integrate hardware components into overall system designs.
  • Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions and problem-solving activities.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of hardware designs, specifications, test plans and results. 
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, organized and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure hardware designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations and certification requirements (eg EMC / EMI, safety, environmental).
  • Coordinate testing and certification activities as needed.
  • Manage assigned tasks and projects effectively, including setting priorities, estimating timelines and tracking progress.
  • Communicate project status, risks and dependencies to project stakeholders.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • Advanced degree (Masters) is preferred but not mandatory
  • Proven experience in Embedded Hardware design and development, preferably in a product development environment.
  • Must be proficient in hardware design tools and software, including Altium, SPICE Simulation, MCU OEM SDK (eg Microchip Studio, TI CCS). 
  • Cadence Allegro, OrCAD experience is highly desirable but not mandatory.
  • Must have experience with configuration management tools (eg SVN, Gitlab)
  • Strong understanding of digital and analog circuit design principles, signal integrity and PCB layout techniques
  • Experience with RTOS, microcontroller/microprocessor-based systems, FPGA/ASIC design, and embedded system architecture.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and protocols, such as USB, Ethernet, CAN and wireless communication (Eg Bluetooth, WiFi)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Experience with compliance testing and certification processes is highly desirable.
