AMSL Aero Pty Ltd is a start-up Australian aviation company, incorporated in 2017. We are developing Vertiia, the world’s most efficient and long-range hydrogen Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Vertiia will be used initially in aeromedical, regional passenger and cargo operations, providing emissions-free, safe, low cost and fast transport up to 1000 km. We are based airside at Bankstown Airport, and our flight test facilities are in regional New South Wales.
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Systems and Software Integration Engineer to join our team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in low-level software development for embedded devices, understanding of real-time operating Systems and the ability to interface various physical systems into final products, such as RPAS and UAS. The candidate should be able to perform software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations. The ideal candidate would be able to translate the real system into virtual environments such as nVidia Isaac Sim, X-Plane, Simulink or Unreal Engine and develop a simulation package used for development, verification, validation, testing and training of the vehicle (digital twin).
About the Role
- Develop and maintain low-level software for embedded devices.
- Interface and integrate various physical systems into final products.
- Utilise knowledge of hardware systems to troubleshoot and optimise integrations.
- Develop and maintain a simulation workflow for design, verification, validation and testing of the real system.
- Conduct SIL (Software-in-the-Loop) and HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) simulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system integration and functionality.
About You
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or information technology or similar.
- Strong proficiency in embedded software development.
- Strong understanding of low-level languages such as C/C++.
- Understanding of high-level languages such as Python.
- Knowledge of hardware Systems and their integration, particularly for RPAS, UAS and similar applications.
- Knowledge of source-control and Git.
- Proficiency in model-based design and simulation tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Highly Desirable skills
- Experience with open-source autopilot software such as ArduPilot and PX4.
- Experience with Matlab and Simulink.
- Previous exposure to languages such as Java and C#.
- Understanding of tools such as Node.JS and Electron.JS to create simple cross-platform apps if necessary (visualisation of real-time telemetry data and similar).
- Knowledge of cloud-based tools, in particular AWS.

The candidate will be based either in the Greater Melbourne area or at our headquarters in Bankstown - we are open to both locations. Interstate travel between NSW and VIC will be required on a regular basis.
