THIS IS A PERMANENT, FULL-TIME POSITION

This exciting new opportunity to work in a unique environment and be part of a dedicated team within the Environment, Heritage and Parks team of Wadjemup / Rottnest Island.

We are seeking an experienced person to plan and implement the conservation service on Wadjemup, through leadership of the conservation team and works in liaison with the Managers of the Environment, Heritage and Parks Division.  The role works across both the terrestrial and marine environments.  The role will be based with daily commute to Island at a minimum of 4 days per week, with daily commuting. Some overnight stays can be arranged.

The position coordinates, prepares and delivers wildlife and vegetation conservation plans, monitoring programs and threat abatement programs for both the terrestrial and marine environments.

The role will provide advice to the Environment Approvals and Compliance Coordinator on environmental matters for assessment and approvals support and direction for island projects, developments, operations.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following essential criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three (3) pages in total. Desirable criteria will be assessed as required.
Essential

  1. Considerable knowledge of and experience in the delivery of nature conservation and natural resource management across both the marine and terrestrial environment. Including planning and implementing works and monitoring programs and reporting on activities, identifying threats to conservation and wildlife values and implementing measures required to rehabilitate and recover those values.

  2. Demonstrated experience of high-level leadership, supervisory, team management, works program planning and human resource management skills, including the ability to conduct performance development and management reviews.

  3. Evidence of highly developed oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in effectively communicating.

  4. Demonstrated experience in, and knowledge of administrative and financial management of operations including project management, risk management, contract management, budget preparation, expenditure control within financial constraints.

  5. Tertiary qualification in environmental or an equivalent relevant discipline.

Desirable

  1. Experience in the management of volunteer groups.

  2. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

  3. Behaviour that reflects Integrity, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.

Note: The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current (issue date not older than 6 months) and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current Working With Children Check card prior to commencement.
