Environmental Specialist

About the role

We're seeking an Environmental Specialist who will play a pivotal role in the on-going success of M7-M12 Integration project.

This role will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of internal and external resources working on successfully delivering the construction of the M7-M12 Integration Project. The Environmental Specialist will provide support to and report into the Environment and Planning Director working on the M7-M12 Integration Project, focusing on environmental approvals, assurance activities, environmental issues on site, management of contractual and technical requirements, sustainability opportunities, document reviews, management of the Design and Construct (D&C) Contractor, Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and the NSW Regulators.

This position will operate from both our Rhodes office and the M7-M12 site office located in Cecil Park.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Assist in managing the environmental management of the Project, ensuring consistency with the Project's planning approvals.
  • Interface with and advise on environmental and planning matters.
  • Provide input on the development of environmental approvals, including technical input on any potential modifications to the planning approval and review of all environment and planning documents.
  • Monitor and complete assurance activities relating to the D&C Contractor's on-site activities to ensure compliance with the Project's planning approvals, Construction Environment Management Plans (CEMPs) and sub-plans, including site surveillance.
  • Review and manage the D&C Contractor's compliance with the sustainability requirements for the project, including Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) rating obligation.
  • Manage the implementation of the D&C Contractor's environmental procedures, risk registers and construction packages, including minimum standards.


This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Engineering, Science or Planning
  • Solid experience in working on construction sites, managing environmental approvals
  • Strong working knowledge and practical application of HSE legislation, standards and codes across multiple jurisdictions
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong understanding of statutory environmental reporting requirements
  • Strong written communication skills including report writing and the preparation of concise management reports
  • Ability to work with and influence stakeholders towards a culture of continuous improvement in environmental performance
  • Strong change management and influencing skills
  • A solid background in liaison with Government and Council agencies in relation to environmental issues, initiatives and management
