About the job:

The role is to support and guide major projects from the environmental, sustainability and compliance point of view.

Responsible for being the key stakeholder and subject matter expert when it comes to environmental and sustainability compliance and providing high quality professional support and advice for matters pertaining to project investigation, environment studies and due-diligence, environmental solutions in response to project and property assessments to reduce environmental risk and protect company reputation and assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a deep understanding of unique project requirements for each project, particularly in relevant environmental and sustainability compliance requirements
  • Engage with cross functional teams to perform a project assessment, and to develop a comprehensive environmental and sustainability project plan
  • Provide high quality and well-considered professional advice to inform the project management of potential environmental approval issues
  • Coordinate a comprehensive environmental study work including briefing consultants, consolidating their advice and advising management
  • Manage the development of project documentation and obtaining relevant environmental, planning and regulatory approvals and permits
  • Coordinate and engage with cross functional teams and stakeholders to ensure the timely management and mitigation of approvals risk for effective project commencement
  • Build on pre-established relationships at Federal, State and local Government levels to meet environmental project requirements
  • Continuously monitor changes in Regulations, public policy, approval conditions and industry practice to ensure the projects continues to meet its compliance obligations
  • Conducts analysis and modelling of potential risks associated with new and existing projects. Assesses environmental impact on current business processes and planned projects
About you:
  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental sciences, planning or engineering or other relevant disciplines
  • Strong project management expertise (accreditations such as Six sigma desirable)
  • Proven experiences in managing major and complex environmental projects with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Significant proven experience in an Environmental Approvals function within a relevant consultancy and or industry, including the preparation of a range of State and Commonwealth approvals
  • Demonstrated understanding of current Environment Legislation in Queensland, Victoria or NSW
  • Preferably experience in working with transport, waste management, energy or mining sector
  • Strong working knowledge of environmental standards, legislation and industry best practice.
  • Sound commercial and technical engineering understanding of the waste industry or similar technical industry is a plus
  • Strong exposure to commercial and business projects that required comprehensive stakeholder engagement
  • Excellent project management, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills
  • Independent professional judgement, initiative and delivering results
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong solution focused mindset
