About the Role:
Project: A supportive learning environment for students with dyslexia
The Department of Education (department) recognises the unique learning differences associated with reading and writing disorders, including dyslexia. The department is committed to ensuring that all students receive the support needed to access, participate and achieve success at school.
All Queensland state schools are required to make reasonable adjustments for students with disability, as outlined in the Disability Standards for Education (2005). Students with disability are defined in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, including people with dyslexia.
This project requires the design and development of easy to understand resources and communications that will ensure staff and the community are equipped with the knowledge and skills to respond to the diverse needs of students with reading and writing difficulties, with a focus on dyslexia.
Key deliverables:
Design and development of forward and inward facing website and resources that provide easy to understand information to enable consistent and shared knowledge.
The Senior Speech Language Pathologist reports to the Director, Language and Literacy or nominated delegate.
We are seeking a person with skills and knowledge related to supporting language and literacy development and identification of students with reading and/or writing disorders. The person will have exceptional skills and experience in design and development of resources and communications to support inclusive educational teams and regional personnel to guide and implement evidence-based practices to improve education outcomes for students with language and literacy disorders, with a focus on dyslexia.
The ideal applicant will have the following key attributes:
- Knowledge of relevant departmental policies and procedures and their application to students with reading and/or writing disorders
- Knowledge of contemporary best-practice frameworks and evidence-informed methodologies regarding the education of students with reading and/or writing disorders, including application within an inclusive curriculum context, and embedding assistive technologies
- Capacity to develop and manage interpersonal relationships and establish productive partnerships within schools, clusters, regional personnel, external agencies and families where required
- Capacity for being accountable for the outcomes-based performance of the area of responsibility
- Data analysis skills
- Project management skills
- Track record of achievement within complex environments.
