We are seeking two Epidemiologists to aid in the execution of the DFAT funded Field Epidemiology in Action (FEiA) program. One position will involve supporting an established field epidemiology training program (FETP) in the Solomon Islands, while the other will focus on supporting Vanuatu establish a FETP.

These positions are located in Australia, with occasional travel to the Solomon Islands and/or Vanuatu as required (up to 8 weeks per year), and the possibility of additional national or international travel.

In these roles you will:

  • Taking into account cultural context, co-design and co-deliver FETP training material with national counterparts, including providing in-country logistical support and guidance where required.
  • Monitor and evaluate the FETP, and adapt and improve activities when necessary.
  • Successfully collaborate with international partners and national colleagues, and mentor junior faculty, fellows, and graduates.

These fixed positions are full time until June 2026 (possibility of extension pending additional funding) – based in Australia, location is flexible.


How will you inspire us?

You will have:

  • Ability to demonstrate awareness and sensitivity when working cross-culturally, including experience working in lower income settings.
  • Knowledge of, and field experience in infectious disease epidemiology.
  • Experience developing and delivering health related training programs for adults.


What we offer

The remuneration for this position is from $99,655 to $112,112 + 17% superannuation and is commensurate with skills and experience.

  1. A public health degree with subsequent relevant field experience in infectious disease epidemiology.

  4. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including an interdisciplinary way of working and the capacity to build relationships.
  5. Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity when working cross-culturally.
  6. Competency in data analysis, interpretation and evaluation of communicable diseases data.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to be adaptable to new or changing situations.
  8. Willing and able to travel to Solomon Islands or Vanuatu for up to 8 weeks per year, and for up to 3 weeks at a time, with potential travel to other Pacific countries.
