Excavator Operator/Material Handler

Your new role

We are seeking a motivated person to work in our Newcastle yard. This position involves working within a small team, safely operating equipment and handling materials with an outstanding eye for detail to help the efficient processing of scrap metal.

Reporting to the Leading Hand, your responsibilities will include:

• Material handler/excavator operation to load/unload various yard processing equipment and trucks safely, respectfully and responsibly at all times
• Work with our Leading Hand to ensure production schedules are met
• Keeping machines and equipment maintained daily and kept clean and tidy inside and out

The successful candidate will have:

• Material handler experience (Orange peel grab attachment preferred)
• Excavator ticket & previous experience
• Good problem solving skills and outstanding eye for detail
• Experience in a busy environment where you are able to remain calm under pressure
• Strong Communication Skills
• Ability to work as part of a small team
• Good planning and prioritising skills
• Strong focus on safety
• Basic preventative maintenance

The following are desirable, however we are willing to provide training & certification for the right candidate:

• Front end loader ticket desirable
• Forklift ticket beneficial but not required
• Experience within similar production based positions
• Knowledge and understanding of scrap metal processing techniques and equipment would be an advantage, but full training can be provided
• Loading and unloading of trucks
