Position summary

The Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery (EDoNM) is a member of the executive and provides strong strategic and operational leadership for the Care Services Directorate and professional leadership for all members of the Nursing and Midwifery professions employed at Mallee Track Health and Community Service. The role has particular focus on workforce management, quality and professional standards, education and professional development, and research and quality.

The role of the EDoNM is pivotal in the delivery of safe, high quality and compassionate care and clinical excellence. As a member of the executive, the EDoNM participates in collaborative decision making regarding clinical and corporate governance. When required, the EDoNM provides expert advice to the Board and the Chief Executive. As a representative of MTHCS, the EDoNM will develop and maintain responsive partnerships with other health service providers and effective relationships with external organisations including the tertiary education sector and local government entities.

Selection criteria
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to develop and maintain organisational strategic partnerships
  • Systems approach to analysing complex organisational problems and an ability to use broad influencing skills to craft organisational change that is inclusive and engaging to implement adaptive solutions to those problems
  • Demonstrated experience with financial and resource management across multiple funding and service streams
  • Commitment to engendering an organisational culture and climate congruent with the organisation's vision and values that embraces continuous quality improvement
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership, governance and direction to inform the Nursing and Midwifery professions at the organisational, state and national levels.
Key responsibilities
  • Accountable for clinical and professional standards for nursing, midwifery and medical clinics across Mallee Track Health and Community Service
  • Foster an organisational culture through effective communication and role modelling that is founded in the organisation’s values, cultivates a sense of joy in work and embraces learning from mistakes
  • Collaborate with hospital executive to develop, implement and evaluate risk management frameworks
  • Develop, implement and evaluate clinical governance frameworks and support the formulation and direction of policies, procedures and clinical guidelines
  • Identify, sponsor and lead the Nursing and Midwifery professional strategic direction
  • Sponsor the vision and strategy for a work based culture that promotes and supports engagement in education, learning, research and workforce management

  • Ensure they do not interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health and safety.

Section 21 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004, requires an Employer to provide and maintain, so far as is reasonable and practicable, a safe workplace for all employees and ensure that no employee is placed at risk of injury while performing the duties and responsibilities required by their position.

To comply with this obligation, MTHCS requires all candidates/employees to have the mental and physical capacity to safely perform the inherent requirements of the position they are applying for (or have been appointed to).

If a risk is identified and fitness to safely perform the duties of the position needs to be determined, MTHCS with the agreement of the candidate/employee, will arrange an independent medical assessment to determine capacity to safely perform the inherent requirements of the position to minimise the risk of injury or aggravation of any pre-existing condition the candidate/employee may have.
