About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proven manager, leader and outstanding legal practitioner to manage a team of Solicitor’s within the Civil Litigation section of the Crown Solicitor’s Office (CSO).

The Executive Solicitor will be responsible for managing a workgroup within the Civil Litigation Section of the Crown Solicitor’s Office performing a variety of Civil Litigation work including but not limited to commercial litigation, personal injury claims across the full gamut of that area including medical negligence, sexual abuse and claims involving law enforcement agencies.

The primary responsibilities of the Executive Solicitor include:

  • Managing a team including the oversight of the conduct of complex and sensitive litigious and non-litigious matters, building and maintaining client relationships, allocation of legal work, and supervision of solicitors and paralegals.
  • Working collaboratively within the Civil Litigation leadership team to assist in the management of the section including supporting staff well-being, developing staff, engaging in performance management as needed, and supporting and developing digital practice.
  • Provision of high quality, timely, client focused, practical and independent legal advice and representation on complex and sensitive legal matters to the Attorney-General, Ministers and other Government clients.

Consistent with broader strategic direction for the Section and the Crown Solicitor’s Office, the Executive Solicitor is responsible for setting, communicating and implementing sustainable priorities within the practice, and the allocation of work consistent with those priorities, including the proactive and strategic use of Treasurer’s Instruction 10 where appropriate.

Applications are invited from highly qualified individuals with experience in a practice area relevant to the Civil Litigation group, who possess good communication, and management skills and who have demonstrated an ability to build and maintain client relationships. Proven experience in running a digital practice is strongly desired.

About the Business

The Crown Solicitor's Office, through the Attorney-General, provides legal services to government, Ministers, agencies and departments, including legal advice, representation before courts and tribunals, negotiating commercial contracts, drafting and production of legal documents, counsel for the conduct of summary prosecutions and Magistrates' appeals, native title claim management, land conveyancing and investigation.

Special Conditions for Employment

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will be provided further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD. 

Currently admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia and the High Court of Australia or eligible to be admitted.
