Job description

An exciting position has become available for a passionate person to join this family orientated team in the role of experienced Station Hand, working alongside the owners and based on the property which is between Deniliquin & Hay NSW.
 
This 35,000-hectare family-owned pastoral comprises of 3 properties and is renowned for producing quality merino sheep. Our clients run 15,000 Merino breeding ewes with a focus on producing SRS wools and early maturing animals. The business includes the East Loddon Merino Stud with an annual on property stud ram auction. The well-known Merino stud is an industry leader in commercially profitable genetics, striving for success by benchmarking against the merino industry standards. Additionally, there are 200 head of self-replacing Angus breeders with weaners grown out to trade weight.
 
Our clients pride themselves on best practice systems aligned with sustainable agriculture, land care and animal welfare practices. They take pride in their heritage along with implementing latest industry leading programs and tools to advance the productivity and sustainability of the business.
Key responsibilities:
  • All aspects of livestock management – health, nutrition, handling, and husbandry of sheep & cattle.
  • All aspects of pasture management including grazing management, soil health, pasture improvement and weed control.
  • All other aspects of farm management including stock work, drenching, fencing, water maintenance, supplementary feeding, basic repairs, and maintenance.

Both townships of Deniliquin & Hay have multiple sporting opportunities and social activities. The property is close to the Wanganella and Booroorban communities which both have a local store & pub. There is a young energetic vibe to the area with plenty of camping and fishing spots along local billabongs and waterways.
 
The Ideal Candidate
Reporting to the owner, you will work well in a team but also be comfortable working independently, you will have a positive attitude, a passion for agriculture and livestock breeding, and take pride in your presentation and work. The position will require you to undertake general animal husbandry operations on the farm including crutching, drenching, vaccinating, docking, tagging etc. This may include but is not limited to a range of computer assisted farming technologies. 
 
We are searching for an experienced, enthusiastic, and self-motivated Station Hand to become part of the team of this progressive grazing operation. 
 
To be considered for this role, you will possess the following attributes:
  • A calm nature with livestock with LSSH experience ideal.
  • A sound understanding of pasture assessment, weed identification, and grazing management systems. Up to date Chem Cert accreditation ideal.
  • Be an effective communicator, be fit and active.
  • Possess a good range of practical skills, fencing, installation/R & M of water infrastructure etc.
  • HR Truck license or be willing and able to obtain one.
  • Capable of working in a team and leading by example.
  • Have your own working dogs - ideal but not a necessity.
