About the Role
We currently have an opportunity for a Merchandise Manager to join our Supermarkets Buying team. As we continue to increase our customer focus we will continueto place a greater emphasis on strategic thinking, innovation and delivery of plans as well as the ongoing development of a high performing best in class buyingteam.
As Merchandise Manager you will be responsible for developing and executing the merchandise strategy for one of our largest departments in consultation withMarketing, Digital, Operations, Finance & People teams. You will be required to lead, coach and develop your team to deliver fi nancial and non fi nancial objectives.
Have ownership and accountability over multi-million dollar departments
Embed customer insights into the commercial operation
Ensure Insights are turned into actions across the department
Develop the department commercial plan (cogs, shrink, pricing & promotions, own brand)
Develop and coach the next generation of leaders
Manage a large team including Category Managers, Assistant Category Managers and Category assistants
Drive industry innovation & change
Achieve department P & L and substantial cost-savings for the business
Achieve market share objectives against competitors
Drive and own the long term direction of the department as well as delivering short term goals on 1000s of products

To succeed in this role you will have:
Exceptional leadership skills and experience in developing high performing teams
A successful track record of delivering commercial retail outcomes
Ability to think strategically and develop winning category plans that deliver sustainable and long term category growth
Experience in building long term retail plans in order to balance profi t and revenue
Proven success in negotiating and infl uencing at all levels and managing multiple stakeholders
Experience in retail buying in a similar high volume category
A proven track record to manage or develop product/category with sound business acumen
Experience in developing a strategy that is aligned to the overarching divisional strategy
