Job description
The Australian Medical Council (AMC) is an independent national standards body for medical education and training whose purpose is to ensure that standards of education, training and assessment of the medical profession promote and protect the health of the Australian community.
The AMC is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity under the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission.
The AMC is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified persons to be appointed as an external Member of its Finance, Audit and Risk Management (FARM) Committee.
The FARM Committee is an advisory committee assisting the AMC Directors in fulfilling their corporate governance and oversight responsibilities in relation to financial management and reporting, Risk Management, internal controls, external Audit and compliance with relevant laws, regulations and codes. The Committee operates under a Terms of Reference.
The term of appointment will be three years with further appointments possible.
The person we are seeking will bring superior financial, audit, Risk Management and compliance knowledge and skills to provide expertise and guidance to the Committee. Requirements include knowledge and understanding of the Australian Accounting Standards and Financial Regulations, and current membership with an accredited professional accounting body such as Institute of Chartered Accountants (Australia), CPA Australia or Institute of Public Accountants. An understanding of not-forprofits and/or the health sector is desirable.
They will need to commit to attend and prepare for quarterly meetings of the Committee. Three meetings are held via Zoom. The October meeting and in-camera session with the auditors is held faceto-face in Canberra. A sitting fee will be paid for meetings. The AMC covers all travel and related expenses for attendance at face-to-face meetings.
