Emergency Department:
Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital has a 24-hour emergency department, high level surgical and medical services, including a diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization laboratory, intensive care, coronary care, rehabilitation services (including brain injury), Diabetes Centre, mental health unit, renal services, paediatrics, maternity, oncology, radiology and pathology.
The 24-hour Emergency Department is the busiest non-metro ED in NSW with approximately 43,000 presentations per annum (25% admitted and 27% paediatric) and it provides a tertiary referral service for patients from the entire New England / Northwest geographical area.
The Emergency Department is delineated to Level 5 and offers a great deal of experience in the management of the widest variety of trauma and critically ill patients. It provides a major trauma referral centre with an active fully ACHS accredited medical and nursing retrieval team and includes the Westpac Helicopter.
