About the OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a Facility/Hardware Engineering Lead to join our JORN line of business based at SA- DSTG, reporting to the Delivery Stream Project Manager.

We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and/ or hybrid working.

Purpose of the role:

For decades JORN, a network of three over the horizon radars, has been the technological Holy Grail for many engineers and is considered one of Australia's greatest defence triumphs. As the Facility/Hardware Engineering Lead you will be responsible for the technical aspect of a portfolio of approximately 10 small to medium sized Delivery stream projects and also a number of MPAAHS. This is expected to be carried out in accordance with the JORN Engineering processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide daily leadership and guidance to a high performing hardware team within JORN program
  • Lead the engineering pathway of the electronic/electrical system manufacture from the hardware implementation
  • Develop and maintain capability roadmaps
  • Review technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems
  • Identify and implement Process Improvements as required
  • Identify and facilitate training and development opportunities for the team
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers and provide input into professional development plans
  • Promote a culture of best practice sharing, supporting subordinates and by role modelling positive and collaborative behaviours

About YOU

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical/Electronic engineering satisfying the requirements for membership and to achieve Charted Professional Engineer (CPEng) through Engineers Australia
  • Demonstrated Team Leadership experience with the ability to lead small to medium sized multi-disciplinary Engineering teams
  • Undertaken the translation of electrical/electronic equipment design into a manufacturable solution
  • Demonstrated good communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with employees and customers at all levels
  • Ability to negotiate and influence internal and/or external stakeholders in a way which generates business benefit whilst maintaining key relationships
