Peddie Ag (James and Lucie Peddie) are seeking a competent and committed team member to join our team on grazing farms located at Hagley and Cluan, Northern Tasmania. Located 30 minutes from Launceston (university, secondary schools and airport), 10 km from the village of Westbury (supermarket, cafes, chemist, doctors, dentist, primary school and hotel), our enterprise runs approximately 30 000 DSE consisting of composite ewes, ram breeding and opportunity cattle trading. The enterprise utilises under cover sheep handling facilities with state of the art handlers and technology. A farm based software package “Mobble” is used for day to day management. We value efficient low cost production, and high quality animal care. A policy of continuous improvement with investment in technology ensures what we do is providing our employees with a safe, supportive, productive and enjoyable workplace.
This position is available for a competent person who has the skill and knowledge or willingness to work in all areas of our farming business. Key activities include:
- All animal husbandry including feeding, drenching, scanning, crutching, shearing, weighing, drafting, lambing, joining, marking and preparation of stock for sale.
- Participation in infrastructure projects such as fencing, yard building, water systems and Landcare.
- General farm maintenance, fodder conservation and miscellaneous tractor work.
- Monitor and control pasture pests and weeds.
The right person will:
- Be a team player.
- Hold a current Australian drivers licence and reliable transport (essential).
- Have good communication skills and a willingness to take on responsibility.
- Have proven time management skills that demonstrate efficiency.
- Be reliable, self motivated, honest, positive and trustworthy.
- An ability to work unsupervised and/or within a team environment.
- Take pride in their work and respect for their teammates.
- Have ability to work with large mobs of animals or a willingness to learn.
- Having Chem-Cert, ATV and/or chainsaw training are an advantage but not essential (on the job training is provided).
- Ability and disposition to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
- Be prepared to work on a roster during busy times that will include weekends and extended hours.
- Demonstrate risk awareness and safety in the workplace.
- A willingness to develop the skills to handle sheep working dogs.
Remuneration will be based on experience and competence. An above award wage will be paid to the right person. Appropriate training will be provided where necessary. 40 hours per week with a level of flexibility.
The position would suit an enthusiastic, energetic and motivated person wanting to progress in the prime lamb industry.
