The role

We are currently seeking a career-minded Farm and Packhouse Hand to support the farm manager at our Pin Road, Mutchilba Farm, near Mareeba. This role is suited to someone who likes to work outdoors and get things done. It could also be ideal for someone who would like to progress their career in horticulture.

Main responsibilities include:

• Implementing weekly and seasonal plans as set by the Farm Manager, including canopy management, irrigation, pest and disease management, weed management and so on
• Maintain records of farm operations – pruning, applications of pesticides, irrigation scheduling, fertilisation, sprayer calibration, packhouse, equipment maintenance, and so on
• Complete vehicle and machinery maintenance plan, monitor operation of vehicles and machinery.
• Maintain storage areas, manage stocktakes and maintain usage records of chemical, fertilisers and fuel.
• Maintain farm buildings, structures and storage areas, as well as inspecting, cleaning and setting up machinery.
• Assist Packhouse manager in a broad range of hands-on activities.
• Operating tractors and other farm machinery
• Supervise casual farm staff from time to time.
• Other tasks as requested by Farm Manager & Packhouse  Manager

As you'd expect, this is a hands-on role. We'll want you to quickly become autonomous, so you'll need to take responsibility, show initiative and interact well with people.

You

There are some things you'll need to bring with you. They include:

• On-farm experience in horticulture
• Capacity to carry out basic equipment repairs and maintenance
• Physical fitness
• Drivers and Forklift licenses
• Chemcert
• Confidence reading, writing, and interacting with technology
• Organisational and self-management skills

You'll be shown how to do things you are not experienced in, but you won't be micromanaged. The manager will give you every chance to take ownership and feel a real sense of pride in your achievements.
