Job description

We're REA

An Australian start-up success story we're quietly proud of.

From a garage in Melbourne to the global stage is an achievement we're humbled by. Our idea to put pictures of houses on the internet has blossomed since 1995, and we now have businesses across Australia, India and North America.

Our purpose is to change the way the world experiences property. No matter where you're at on your property journey, we're here to help on every step - whether that's buying, selling, renting or renovating.

Some of our brands include realestate.com.au, realcommercial.com.au, Flatmates.com.au, Proptrack.com and Mortgage Choice.

We're proud to be named in Australia's "Top 5" Best Workplaces two years in a row. This recognition is a great proof point of our unique and special culture. A culture that is driven by our people, our values, and our commitment to making a difference in the community.

What you’ll be doing

As a key member of our Content and Growth team, you will experience interesting and challenging work. Our team set the brand vision for our company - what our identity stands for, how we educate the property market through the right data and insights and how best to communicate stories that matter.

This role works with our in-house editorial team and the Mortgage Choice teams to create outstanding editorial coverage of the banking and finance sectors, which interprets market data relating to mortgages and property finance. This role is for an ambitious self-starter that has great ideas combined with the passion, strategy, and ability to make them happen.

As the Finance Editor for the business, we need someone that can generate ideas for editorial and Guides content that is not only on point for our brand but is engaging and resonates with our property-savvy audience.

  • Lead and scale the development of original and engaging banking and Finance Editorial and Guides content for Mortgage Choice audiences that informs and educates consumers and interprets and analyses current market data and trends
  • Generate ideas that align with realestate.com.au’s editorial strategy
  • Write, commission and sub-edit quick turnaround stories and ensure content is timely and accurate
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with our Mortgage Choice, Content, Marketing, Product, and Audience Data Analytics teams to shape content relevant to our audience
  • Upload and curate content through our CMS and Apple News channels
  • Measure and report on content performance and leverage data to grow audience and engagement
  • Act as a spokesperson for Mortgage Choice and provide commentary on mortgage and financial market issues externally

What we’re after

  • 8+ years of experience in editorial content production
  • Strong background in news/finance reporting and editorial planning
  • Ability to interpret data to tell a compelling story for consumers
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit consumer-focused content, and provide analysis of current market conditions
  • Knowledge of SEO content
  • In-depth knowledge of content production processes for online delivery
  • Expertise in CMS (Wordpress preferred)
  • Sound project management skills. Proven ability to multi-task and work to tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An understanding of concepts such as website tracking, analytics and technical concepts
  • Understanding of how best to engage an online audience and use the latest technologies to drive online traffic
  • Understanding the digital user experience to ensure content helps provide confidence to the consumer on any part of their property journey and will have impact by driving maximum traffic

The REA experience

The physical, mental, emotional and financial health of our people is something we’ll never stop caring about. This is a place to learn and grow. We’re committed to your development – both professionally and personally. Your experience with us is something we take seriously.

We offer:

  • A flexible working environment, meaning we strike the balance of what you need and what works for the business (and yes, our leaders fully understand the benefits of working flexibly)
  • A hybrid approach to the future of work - https://rea.to/hybrid-working
  • Generous and flexible parental leave offering for primary and secondary carers
  • Summer Fridays – time back to focus on your wellness every Friday afternoon from December through to March
  • Support for your mental and physical health and wellbeing via our Wellbeing Program
  • Because We Care program which includes volunteer leave and community grants, to ensure you have the opportunity to give back to your community
  • Hack Days for you to bring so you can bring your big ideas to life in a supportive learning environment
  • An additional day of leave just for your birthday

Oh, and by the way:

At REA we value diversity and inclusion in all forms. Gender, religion, ethnicity, LBTGIQ+, neurodiversity and so much more. Research shows that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other marginalized folks tend to only apply when they check every box. So if you've got the must-haves, dedication and enthusiasm to learn but don't necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still get in touch. We'd love to have a chat and see if you could be a great fit.

If you like the sound of us, then we think you should apply today. We're proud to be Circle Back Initiative Employer and we commit to respond to every applicant. While we're looking at your application, and preparing to come back to you with an update, why not get to know us a bit more through our various social channels?
