After our recent (significant) land rate increase, supported by the Walcha Community, Council’s mandate is to improve the financial sustainability of Council and demonstrate improvement in Council’s bottom line and the efficiency of its service delivery. This is an exciting time and we need your help.
The Position
This is a permanent full-time position, helping us maintain and improve our strong financial process and functions. This is a management role, and we expect you to bring your “A” game in everything you do; from strategic planning, reporting and advising to accurate day to day processing and leading your high performing team.
You will be responsible for the management and maintenance of Council financial systems and you will make valuable contributions to our continuous improvement program. Assisting the Director of Corporate & Community to develop and maintain a clear picture of Council’s finances and preparing budgets, forecasts, system monitoring, auditing, financial decision making and providing guidance in all aspects of Council’s business.

About You
You will hold relevant qualifications and industry experience in Finance and/or Accounting, and ideally have experience in Local Government. You will be equally at home with daily, monthly and annual transactional recording and reporting to providing advice and assistance with longer term aspects of Council’s financial systems and processes.
You will work well with our team, and effectively strengthen and lead it towards the mutually shared Council goals of efficiency and sustainability. You will contribute to the cultural development of the Finance Department on our journey to becoming a friendly and cohesive, expert team that is improvement driven and solutions focussed.
You will ensure that Walcha Council fulfils our responsibilities under the relevant Acts, Legislations and Policies, and that we continue to provide best practise activities in alignment with the latest financial standards & guidance.

What we Offer
This is a permanent full-time position (35 hours per week) with a negotiable (for the right candidate) starting wage of $2325.90 (gross per week) based on the Local Government (State) Award 2023.
Depending on your qualifications and the expertise that you can bring, Council is prepared to be negotiable on the terms and conditions of this position.
