The Department of Justice and Community Safety are seeking Assessors to join the new Victims of Crime Financial Assistance Scheme, to consider and approve Financial Assistance for victims of violent crime and contribute to an inclusive, trauma informed victim focused service.Please note all candidates who apply for the Assessor position will be required to take a Situational Judgement Test which will be sent via email. Your result may impact the success of your application.About the Business UnitThis is an exciting opportunity to deliver a major new initiative for victims of crime. The FAS is a landmark reform that will replace the judicially based Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal with an administrative scheme that prioritises the needs of victims and supports their recovery from violent crime.The FAS is highly anticipated by victims and stakeholders and represents a major leap forward in the Victorian Government's response to victims of crime. Established under the Victims of Crime (Financial Assistance Scheme) Act 2022 the FAS will provide Financial Assistance through a simple and easy to navigate process that is fair, sensitive, and responsive to victims' needs. It will acknowledge harm done and be trauma informed, with a priority focus on being inclusive and culturally safe.Reporting to the FAS Senior Assessor you will be responsible for the review and approval of applications for Financial Assistance as per the Act, established policy, guidelines, and procedures.About the RoleDuties will include:

• Analyse and approve applications and requests for payments as per the Act, and interpretation of established policy, guidelines, and procedures. Escalate complex and high-risk applications and decisions as appropriate.
• Identify, analyse, and provide advice on documentary evidence requirements for applicants or their appointed representative to enable assessment of their application.
• Formulate notices of decision for simple applications, including the analysis completed and the reasons for the decision.

• Experience working with victims of family violence, sexual assault, and victims of crime more broadly and an understanding of the systemic barriers faced by marginalised communities in the justice system.
• Knowledge of risk factors for family violence and the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework

Qualifications

• A relevant qualification and/or experience in community services, social work, criminology, psychology, victim services and/or family violence is highly desirable.
