Job description

We are seekingapplications from people that are either fully qualified or have an interest inobtaining a Diploma in Financial Counselling and relevant membership with SouthAustralian Financial Counsellors Association (SAFCA) (or a willingness toobtain).

About the Position

As a Financial Counsellor (qualified) you will play a pivotal role in providingadvocacy, support, and education to individuals and families navigatingfinancial difficulties. You will:

·        Maintain and develop a professional relevant financial counsellingservice within the service area, including referral procedures, reporting andstatistical data

·        Provide information,support and advocacy to help clients overcome financial difficulty

·        Provide adviceregarding income and entitlements and whether debts are correct and legallyowned

·        Explore options andconsequences with clients to address financial difficulties including debtnegotiations, waivers, bankruptcy

·        Assist clients incompleting more complex documentation including statement of affairs, lettersto creditors etc

·        Liaise with other agencies/services and counsellors to ensureawareness of needs of families in financial crisis.

As a Financial Capability Worker (trainee) you will be responsiblefor delivering financial literacyeducation, information and coaching and maintain a strong focus on supportingconsumers to change their behaviour and ‘learn by doing’. This includes basicfinancial literacy education and support either individually or in group settings.As a FinancialCapability Worker, you will:

·     Provide information,money management skills and coaching to help clients make better financialdecisions and build financial resilience

·     Deliver financialliteracy information, education and support to clients

·     Provide ongoingbudgeting support and savings strategies to clients

·     Assist clients inassessing utility or telco hardship programs, government concessions and accessingservices

·     Provide clients withinformation about financial rights

·      Refer clients to financial counselling or othercommunity services

·     Manage statisticaldata as required.

  • Annual salary for a qualified Financial Counsellor (with full SAFCA membership) ranges from $82,043 to $88,287 (based on Full Time)
  • Annual salary as a Financial Capability Worker (trainee) ranges from $71,136 to $76,273 (based on Full Time)

About You

As a qualified FinancialCounsellor, you will have:

·        A Diploma in Financial Counselling and relevant experience, alongwith membershipwith the South Australian Financial Counsellors Association (SAFCA) (or a willingnessto obtain)

·        Experience in advising andproviding financial information to families and individuals to assist in theresolution of financial issues at various levels including crisis intervention

·        Demonstrated knowledge of theimpact and issues related to financial crisis and associated behaviours inrural and remote locations

·        Knowledge of relevant legislation,hardship provisions and the practices of financial institutions

·        Experience in developing caseplans and facilitating a positive approach in working with families,individuals and groups to achieve these goals

·        Experience inworking in a highly confidential manner

·        Experience in providing financialliteracy and community education

·        Demonstrated ability to identifyan issue and seek creative solutions

·        Highly effective communicationskills (verbal and written), interpersonal skills and time management skills.

As a FinancialCapability Worker (trainee), you will have:

·     A willingness to obtain or beworking towards a Diploma inFinancial Counselling (support will be provided)

·     Experience in assisting familiesand individuals in the resolution of financial issues at various levels includingcrisis intervention

·     Demonstrated knowledge of theimpact and issues related to financial crisis and associated behaviours inrural and remote locations

·     An awareness of relevantlegislation and hardship provisions and how to negotiate accessing them withclients

·     An understanding of case plans andfacilitating a positive approach in working with families, individuals andgroups to achieve these goals

·     Experience inworking in a highly confidential manner

·     A commitment to providingfinancial literacy and community education

·     An ability to identify an issueand seek creative solutions

·     Effective communication skills(verbal and written), interpersonal skills and time management skills

·     High level ofability in the use of Microsoft Office and Information Technology.

Requirementsof the role:

·        Hold(or willingness to obtain) a current DHS Working With Children Check – don'tworry, we can support this process if necessary!

·        Hold(or a willingness to obtain) a National Criminal History Record Check (PoliceCheck)

·        Holda current South Australian Driver’s License (minimum Provisional License)

·        Befully vaccinated for Covid-19 (minimum of two doses) - evidence will berequired prior to appointment
