First Nations and Community Engagement Advisor – Milton, Brisbane

The role

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Sustainable Business, Marketing & Communications team to advance our reconciliations efforts and continue to deliver on our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) commitments.

You will lead the development of future RAPs with support from our Reconciliation Steering Committee, Reconciliation Advisory Community, leadership team, and RAP Champions. This high-visibility role involves leading, guiding and supporting the integration of First Nations cultural practices within the organisation through training, education, and mentorship.

Key responsibilities include collaborating with internal stakeholders in Sustainable Business, Marketing, Communications, Human Resources, Senior Management, Account Management, and Indirect Purchasing to drive continuous improvement. You will also work with Sales Area Australia & New Zealand Key Account Managers and their customers to lead, collaborate, and influence reconciliation efforts, enhancing our position as a leader in social sustainability. Additionally, You will also coordinate, deliver, and evaluate our community sponsored programs, events, and initiatives, as well as develop strong partnerships with local communities.

Areas of responsibility

  • Coordinate the execution of deliverable items in our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan according to Reconciliation Australia’s framework, as well as leading the development of our future RAPs.
  • Facilitate culturally sensitive presentations to raise awareness and educate on First Nations culture
  • Represent Sandvik at forums and build relationships with community groups
  • Engage with local communities and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and company policies
  • Look at opportunities to collaborate with our key customers, either with bigger initiatives such an investigating opportunities to work together and develop First Nations micro businesses, or smaller initiatives such as inviting key customers to our NAIDOC site celebrations
  • Ensure that any key customer collaboration is communicated both internally and externally
  • Assist in the management and implementation of local community partnerships and local activities in the communities in which we work in, while supporting the dissemination of information to local communities.

Your profile

To be successful in this role you will need a tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience in a similar role (e.g. Community Engagement, communication and/or community development). Demonstrated experience will be highly regarded, for example, if you have previous experience in facilitation of culturally sensitive subject/s and demonstrated experience in managing multiple Community Engagement projects.

You are vibrant, friendly, and outgoing individual who has a passion for people and making connections. You have effective communication, listening and presentation skills as this role is responsible for developing and implementing Community Engagement and development programs. It is also important for you to have relationship building skills and experience working with First Nations communities and organisations. Along with a strong understanding of cultural practices of First Nations people’s and communities.

You will need the ability to travel, as Sandvik is located across multiple sites within Australia.
