Boasting a legacy of over 130 years in the sugar industry, Bundaberg Sugar holds a prominent position in the Australian sugar sector. Serving as a grower, miller, refiner, and marketer of sugar and associated products, the company stands as one of Australia's largest cane growers, operating a Refinery and Packaging Plant in Bundaberg, Queensland.
Bundaberg Sugar is currently in search of a Fitter and Turner to actively contribute to the refinery maintenance team. The ideal candidate should embody a proactive and dynamic approach, possess practical skills, and maintain an assertive "can-do" mindset. A robust background in the manufacturing and/or sugar industry is essential, along with the ability to thrive in the high-paced environment of a sugar refinery and packaging department.
ROLE CONTEXT
The successful applicant will possess the skills necessary to carry out refinery maintenance, capital projects goals and objectives. Successful applicants will be required to:
- Autonomously undertake maintenance for the Refinery and Packaging plants
- Work as part of the refinery maintenance crew to meet the agreed maintenance targets
- Liaise with other personnel in undertaking maintenance throughout the factory
- Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting packaging equipment is a desirable part of the role.
- Actively participate in and support Company Workplace Health and Safety initiatives
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
The role will require the job holder to carry out plant maintenance and capital works including packaging packing equipment, conveyors, palletisers, pumps, fans, gearboxes, motors, vessels, and valves.
Experience in using a computerised maintenance management system would be desirable as would relevant experience in a food manufacturing and/or maintenance environment.
Assist with initiating and developing projects to enhance the availability and efficiency of plant and equipment
Undertake advanced fitting or other tasks (eg welding, hydraulics, etc) within the level of skills held and nominated to be used as part of the classification level.
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful applicants will hold a trade qualification in Fitting or Fitting and Turning, in addition, to experience in general fitting, basic welding, tig welding and repair maintenance work are key requirements of this role.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
The terms and conditions of the Millaquin and Refinery Enterprise Agreement 2023 (EBA) or subsequent agreement will apply.

- Annual leave entitlement will be 4 weeks per year plus loading of 25%
- Travel leave entitlement is 1 week per year
- Long service leave is 13 weeks after 10 years of service
Other conditions include;
- Day work hours, current ordinary hours of 7.00 am -3.30 pm
- Rostered days off allow for the work/life balance
- Other allowances payable as per the EBA
