Fixed-wing Pilot (C172) / Station Hand - NW Pastoral Stations, SA

Jumbuck are a family run, fourth generation Australian business with large scale sheep and cattle stations throughout Australia.
 
Jumbuck seek a Fixed-Wing Pilot / Station Hand for both our Bulgunnia and Commonwealth Hill Stations respectively; located in the NW Pastoral area of South Australia. The stations are west of the Stuart Highway with the closest well-known town of Coober Pedy several hours away. The properties are equally well developed, maintained and resourced and run up to 30,000 head of Merino sheep per station at peak times.
 
The Pilot / Station Hand reports directly to their respective Station Manager and you will be operating, and be responsible for, the station’s Cessna 172. Your main duty while flying will be aerial livestock spotting where you will assist in coordinating and supporting the crew on the ground. Primarily, this occurs during the busier periods of shearing, lamb marking and crutching which is when the bulk of flying is performed. Outside of these periods, you will also be involved in ad-hoc aerial property and stock inspections as required by management.
 
Please keep in mind: the position does not require you to be flying daily. During times when flying is not required, you will join the crew as a Station Hand and be involved in the daily station activities that include livestock work (motorbike), maintenance, water runs and general mechanical care.
 
To be considered for this position you will have:

• Australian Commercial Pilots License (essential)
• Minimum 200 hours of total flying time (essential)
• Experience flying a Cessna 172 (essential)
• Low-Level Flying Endorsement (or ability to obtain prior to commencement)

Previous farm or station experience along with mechanical or trade experience, will be highly regarded, though on the job learning is available for the right person. Experience riding motorbikes in an off-road environment will be an advantage.
 
A competitive day rate is available with 6 weeks annual leave, inclusion in the Jumbuck Staff Bonus with single-person accommodation available on the stations, meals provided on working days and utilities and Starlink internet provided.
 
An appreciation for living and working in Outback Australia on large stations will be necessary.
