Cross River Rail will transform the way we travel to, from and through Brisbane in the future. It will be a catalyst for 10 years of wider rail transformation across the whole of South East Queensland and it is already playing a key role in how we prepare for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line including 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD. It includes the delivery of four new underground stations, two new above-ground stations, accessibility rebuilds for six stations, the construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast, and the introduction of a new world-class ‘ETCS' signalling system.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work on one of Australia's largest infrastructure projects and to be a part of something that will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

About the Role

The Freight Advisor ensures that acceptable levels of service are maintained with minimal impacts to freight operators as a results of construction activities and planned track possessions related to the building of the Cross River Rail. This involves extensive collaboration with internal project teams and external stakeholder such as Queensland Rail and 3rd party operators to coordinate effective solutions such as functional alternative transport routes for affected operators.

This position reports to Possessions Manager and forms part of the Customer and Network Integration team. This is a rare opportunity to ultilise use your knowledge and experience in freight and rail operations, coordination and stakeholder management to contribute to the delivery of a transformative transport infrastructure project. this position is offered as a two year contract with possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide governance and secretariate support to the Freight User Working Group (FUWG) and associated meetings.
  • Proactively manage and coordinate FUWG internal and external reporting.
  • Develop freight management framework, manage key processes, documents and tools, ensuring compliance with key project requirements.
  • Ensure stakeholder engagement across agencies is managed in a co-ordinated and consistent way. Maintain stakeholder management tools including registers.
  • Work closely with technical possessions and rail management functions to understand freight impacts and solutions.
  • Develop and coordinate inputs to briefing notes, presentations and communication materials.
  • Monitor and maintain risk database and registers, escalating risks to the Possession Manager and give advice on solutions and mitigation measures.
  • Collate and update data sources associated with reporting metrics to ensure supporting programs include up to date information to track dependencies.

About You:

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following key competencies:

  • Strong experience in leading and managing complex issues interfacing with key stakeholders to achieve positive project outcomes.
  • Previous experience successfully adhering to strict governance and process requirements in a project or similar setting with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including reporting and the development of procedures, briefing notes and presentations.
  • Proven relationship building and stakeholder collaboration skills in a similar environment involving multiple external stakeholders.
  • Sound understanding of freight and / or rail operations is highly desirable.
