Job description

Position Overview:

The Front of House and Functions Manager at Sublime Café and Sublime Social plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation of our café and new event space. This dynamic position involves overseeing the front-of-house operations of Sublime Café, as well as managing bookings, events, and Functions at Sublime Social. The ideal candidate is a highly organised and customer-focused individual with strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering exceptional hospitality experiences.

Working closely with our Chef/Director, you will play an important part in rebuilding Sublime Café and launching our new function space- Sublime Social. 

Key Responsibilities:

Café- Front of House Operations:

  • Supervise and coordinate front-of-house staff to ensure excellent customer service and efficiency in daily operations.
  • Manage and supervise front-of-house staff, including training, rostering, and performance management.
  • Ensure the highest standards of customer service are consistently upheld, maintaining a welcoming and attentive atmosphere for all customers.
  • Monitor inventory levels and place orders for front-of-house supplies, including beverages, tableware.
  • Management of the NowBookIt online reservation system in collaboration with our Director.
  • Implement, where possible, cost-effective measures to minimise waste and optimise resource utilisation, contributing to overall profitability.

Functions and Events Management:

  • Working in collaboration with our Director and kitchen team,  manage enquiries for and the setup and execution of events and Functions at Sublime Social.
  • Liaise with clients to understand their event requirements and provide personalised service and support throughout the planning process.
  • Coordinate the team to ensure seamless coordination of food and beverage service during events. 
  • If interested, assist in creating a diary of ticketed events at Sublime Social throughout the year.

Staff Training and Development:

  • Provide training and ongoing support to front-of-house staff, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to deliver exceptional service.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, leading by example and promoting teamwork and professionalism among team members.
  • In collaboration with the Head Chef/Director, undertake staff reviews, conduct staff meetings and manage communication channels with the wider team

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce health and safety protocols and the Responsible Service of Alcohol to ensure the well-being of staff and guests at all times.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in a similar role within the hospitality industry, with a strong focus on customer service and event management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a diverse team.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management abilities, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to multitask and pivot in a bustling café and event environment
  • Sound knowledge of food and beverage operations, including wine service and cocktail preparation.
  • Barista experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite and hospitality management software (e.g., POS systems, reservation software) - desirable 
  • Current RSA certification and relevant qualifications in hospitality management or a related field preferred.

This role will commence as a permanent part time position, with a minimum of 24 hours per week. As the functions increase in our new space, this position is likely to become a full time, salaried role, for the right person.
