Job purpose
Animo is seeking an experienced Gaffer to lead the lighting design and solutions for our Australian and International studios. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of studio lighting and chromakeying processes for real-time broadcasting. This role involves significant collaboration across various teams and studios to maintain the highest quality video output and a clean chromakey for a 24/7 production environment.
Key responsibilities include the strategic sourcing of video and lighting equipment, optimising cyclorama wall setups and lighting, conducting rigorous testing to achieve clean real-time green screen extractions during live broadcasts, explore and implement workflow adjustments to minimise any production downtime, as well as crafting detailed documentation and training materials for use by studio managers and technicians. This Gaffer position will collaborate closely with the motion capture and Unreal Engine development teams to implement best practices, maintain high standards and consistency across all locations.
Duties and responsibilities
- Optimise lighting and operate Ultimatte systems for clean real-time green screen extractions for live broadcasting.
- Lead the sourcing and procurement of lighting and video equipment for Animo’s Australian and International studios.
- Test and evaluate AV equipment to ensure suitability for a 24/7 production pipeline.
- Develop and maintain detailed documentation and training materials for studio technicians, including equipment setup, workflow optimisation, and maintenance procedures.
- Collaborate with studio managers and technicians to implement best practices and ensure consistency across studios.
- Stay up to date on industry trends and advancements in virtual production to recommend strategic upgrades and innovations.

- Meticulous attention to detail, with analytical thinking and strong problem-solving skills.
Experience
- Proven experience as a Gaffer or Chief Lighting Technician in film, television, and or live production.
- Expertise in green screen lighting, chroma keying techniques, and using Ultimatte devices.
- Experience with sourcing, testing, and managing studio equipment and technology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Working conditions
This is a full time role encompassing a standard 38-hour work week, Monday-Friday, primarily based on site from our Prahran studio location.
