The Great Stupa is seeking an experienced gardener to join our garden and landscaping team.
Our gardens and memorials are features that brings much joy and comfort to all who visit the Great Stupa. Beyond that, our park is an integral part of the experience that brings peace and harmony to all who visit the site.
The role will include:
- Planting and maintenance of exotic and native trees, bushes and shrubs.
- Maintenance of gravel paths and sandstone edging.
- Maintaining and helping to create new gardens within the Peace Park.
- Weeding / whipper snipper / spraying throughout the site, including memorial terraces.
- Mulching throughout the Peace Park, including memorial trees and roses.
- Annual pruning of trees.
- Pruning and dead heading of roses.
- Weekly visual checks of all memorial walls and trees.
- Removing dead flowers, fruit, incense and unapproved items from memorial walls and trees.
- Lifting and straightening sunken plaques around trees and roses.
- Placing plaques at memorials and prayer wheels.
- Helping to prepare for upcoming memorials. Special attention to raking paths and weeding, cleaning of walls, including wall niches.
- Acid washing newly built memorial walls.
- Washing of slate tiles for signing.
- Assisting in the preparations of the site for festivals and events, including setting up marquees, chairs, and tables.
- Assisting the works teams on occasion with additional labouring tasks.
- Supervising Work for the Dole participants and volunteers in the absence of the Garden and Landscaping Supervisor
We require our Gardener & Labourer to be able to work independently or within a team, be competent with gardening tools and equipment, and be a positive representative of the Great Stupa. They will work under the supervision of our Garden and Landscaping Supervisor, work closely with our Memorial Manager, and work harmoniously with the extended staff and volunteer teams.
The successful applicant will be required for 3 days per week with an immediate start, with one of those days dedicated to caring for our memorials. Flexibility with days and hours can be agreed upon for the right candidate. As a supervisor of Work for the Dole participants, a Police Check will be required.
This casual role will commence under the Gardening and Landscaping Services Award 2020, level 2. Employee benefits will include 11% superannuation (or as directed by Federal Government legislation), and due to being employed on a casual basis, there will be no sick leave nor annual leave entitlements.
