Job description

What's the role?

The Gas Forecasting Analyst role is responsible for developing and managing both long-term and short-term demand forecasts throughout the customers contracted period.

You will be responsible for ensuring the submissions to the market operator are compliant with regulations, and accurate and timely forecasts enable the trading team to make informed decisions to minimize market exposure.

You will liaise with stakeholders within the Trading and Supply and the Retail Energy teams and may deal directly with various customers to obtain information regarding current and future operations.

Key accountabilities:

  • Develop and maintain long-term and short-term demand forecasts in Gas Energy Markets and associated Environmental product markets for Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Retailer (Mass Market) segments.
  • Manage and monitor Gas demand forecast submissions to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) ensuring ongoing compliance is demonstrated.
  • Ensure long-term and short-term forecasts are submitted to Trading in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of forecasting models to ensure accuracy standards are met
  • Review and track forecasting performance and report on forecasting accuracy to drive continuous improvement
  • Liaise with Account Managers or directly with customers to ensure forecasts are based on the most up to date information
  • Adjust forecasts as necessary to include ramp up or down in usage, expected future outages, scheduled maintenance, and changes in growth expectations.
  • Prepare ongoing Emissions Liability reporting and Compliance reports for Trading and the Regulator
  • Continually drive integration, enhancement, and improvement of existing processes and tools, including working closely with IT to deliver automation.
  • Assist in documentation of processes, model logic, assumptions, and verification to meet Audit requirements and ongoing compliance

What we need from you

This role will ideally suit someone with high attention to detail, strong accuracy and analytical skills, and the ability to work autonomously in an operational role within a high compliance and regulatory environment.

You will also need to understand the importance of timely and accurate long-term and short-term demand forecasts, ensuring adherence with all regulatory and compliance requirements.

Industry experience or knowledge of AEMO’s Wholesale and Retail Gas Markets, and the National Electricity Market (NEM) is also highly desirable.

The application period will run until April 25, 2024
