Soft Landing is a national social enterprise operating across NSW, ACT, VIC and WA. We divert end of life mattresses from landfill and recovery components to recycle. For every 45 mattresses that we collect and recycle each day, we can create a job for someone who really needs it. Soft Landing currently employees 150 staff.
Soft Landing located in Red Head provides mattress collection and recycling services across the Newcastle area and beyond. As demand for our service continues to grow, we require General Hands to meet that demand now and in the future.
The General Hand role at Soft Landing includes:
- Manual processing of mattresses and bed bases (this involves cutting away the material from the shell of the unit and separating components that may include latex, foam, husk, steel and timber)
- Riding as offsider on collection runs including loading and unloading of mattresses with attention to safe manual handling
- Preparing separated components for baling or waste disposal
- Correct use and attention to PPE
- Maintaining a tidy and clean working area
- Assisting with balers and presses
- General facility manual tasks including unloading and stacking of mattresses and other recyclable items
- All training associated with the role.
Requirements:
- Able to demonstrate and maintain good working relationships with supervisors and fellow workers, including people from different backgrounds and cultures
- Good physical fitness is required, along with flexibility and a sense of pride in what and how you work
- Reliable, motivated and have a good work ethic
- Willing to learn and train in all aspects of what we do
- Able to work independently and as a team player to achieve and maintain daily processing targets
- Willing to undertake random site drug and alcohol testing to ensure a safe work environment for all
- Ability to travel to Red Head industrial area
- Forklift licence highly desirable but not essential - training may be offered should your position become permanent.
Casual roles are available, with an opportunity for permanence in the future. Rate of pay $34.18 (including casual loading) per hour plus superannuation at guaranteed rate. Junior rates are available for individuals under 21 years, as per Waste Management Award Level 2; hours of work Monday - Friday 7.00am and 3.00pm. Salary sacrifice available which can significantly enhance take-home pay.
