About Department
Surgical services medical workforce is a team of 4 FTE Consultant General Surgeons, 5 Registrars (unaccredited) and 2 Interns.
Surgical specialities in Orthopaedics, Urology, Ophthalmology, Ear, Nose & Throat, Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Paediatric Surgery are also performed at CGH. The Perioperative Services are located at the Sale Campus comprises of 4 Operating Rooms, 1 Endoscopy room, a Day Procedure Unit and Central Sterilising Supply Department. The Perioperative Unit also incorporates the pre-admission clinic.
About the Role
The General Surgeon provides specialist surgical services consistent with approved scope of practice and CGH surgical capability for the population of Central and East Gippsland. The role operates in an environment characterised by a need to work effectively as part of the Surgical Unit and also within a large multidisciplinary team that provides services across a broad range of acute, emergency, inpatient, outpatient, primary health and community support services.
Classifications for this position will range from classification award for Specialist Year (1-9)

Up to 1.0FTE is available: part time and job share applications will be considered.
Duties
- Perform at the level of General Surgeon to provide safe, comprehensive surgical care, general surgery and endoscopy services consistent with approved scope of practice and CGH’s surgical capability.
- Provide inpatient care to surgical patients, assessment services for patients attending the Emergency Department when required and outpatient services to referred patients.
- Work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to facilitate integrated person centred care coordination leading to timely and effective client service provision.
- Support the development of and participate in the on call surgical roster, including providing after hours support to the Emergency Department, Critical Care Unit and inpatient units.
