Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.Come and be a part of this successPurposeLeadership in application of structural geology across a range of scales to understand spatial location and geometry of resources to support the geological models used for exploration, resource and reserve estimation, orebody management and geotechnical models used for design, planning and compliance.About the RoleMain Functions:
- Maintain oversight of structural geology application across BHP and actively provide expertise to assist with technical development, process embedment, capability development of geoscientists, improved productivity and business decisions.
- Ensure timely provision of advice and support to improve geological and geotechnical models to support exploration, resource and reserve estimation and mining/extraction.
- Develop and deliver applied structural geology training programs to upskill BHP geoscientists in ability and confidence to apply structural geology principles to daily work.
- Lead the continuous development of application of structural geology in exploration and resource assessment, including data collection/storage/interpretation, hardware and software guidance
- Champion the use of integrated geoscience datasets across a range of scales to produce best-possible understanding of rock mass geometry through geological time
- Drive innovation & technology application to assess and model structural geology and rock geometry across BHP, including collaborating with the Technology Strategy and Innovation team as required.
- Champion cross-region and commodity sharing and collaboration in structural geology practices, including oversight of relevant technical standards.
- Develop and maintain strong links with external researchers, Resource Engineering Excellence, contractors and consultants.
- Demonstrated years of applied structural geology in petroleum, mining or exploration, including significant field application.
- Relevant networks with external researchers and consultants
- Global recognition of expertise
- Demonstrated ability to integrate multiple geoscience datasets (geology, geophysics, geochemistry, geochronology, structural mapping) to determine structural architecture across a range of scales and their application to geotechnical models
- Delivery of training programs in the application of structural geology
- Demonstrated ability to work with and influence key stakeholders.
- Minimum Honours degree in Geoscience.
- Relevant postgraduate degree.
