Job description

General Manager Operations - Heavy Metal Manufacturing

  • Brisbane, QLD
  • Full-time, permanent

About Us:

AutoPacific Group is a leading provider of highly engineered vehicle accessories and towing solutions, renowned for excellence across Australia, New Zealand, and the Asia Pacific Region. With a commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, we foster a culture where individuals can thrive and carve out fulfilling career paths.

Our mission is to harness cutting-edge technology to deliver unparalleled products, engage our workforce, and create value for our stakeholders.

About the role:

As our General Manager of Operations, you will spearhead the efficient and safe operation of all manufacturing, purchasing, and supply chain activities across our Queensland sites for our CruiseMaster and East Coast Bull Bars brands. This pivotal role entails overseeing production KPIs, delivery timeliness, EBITA, cost, quality, safety, and environmental objectives. In addition, you will champion a culture of safety while fostering a high-performing operations team.

This role is a critical transformation role and will be responsible for the process of migrating two independent manufacturing operational sites that have historically operated as independent businesses, into a single site and a broader group where manufacturing plants operate as part of a network and decisions are made to optimise outcomes for the overall group, rather than for individual sites.

This role presents a unique opportunity to help shape the culture of the business and people skills will be paramount to support the future direction of the manufacturing operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Establishment of a new Manufacturing site:
  • In partnership with HQ, you will need to develop and implement a strategy to migrate production facilities and processes for CruiseMaster and East Coast Bull Bars separate sites to a new single site.
  • Operational Management:
  • Direct, manage and optimize our Queensland manufacturing sites overall operations, including financial management of the site.
  • Production responsibilities including developing and implementing process routes and schedules, staff management, new process initiatives, process related capital expenditure projects, process control and driving preventative maintenance.
  • Develop a strong knowledge of Syteline (ERP) and related computer systems to control, schedule and plan all the required resources to perform the job with a high level of accuracy.
  • Set policies and procedures that guide manufacturing site operations productivity, quality and cost efficiency.
  • Manage warehousing and logistics to ensure delivery timeliness.
  • Staff Management and Labour Relations:
  • Develop a culture of customer service both internally and externally and ensure effective communication with cross-functional and cross entity stakeholders.
  • Manage performance by communicating established key performance criteria, benchmarks, standards and metrics and carry out regular performance reviews to maximize business performance.
  • Provide Executive Leadership with input relating to operational risks, resources, capacities, competitive positioning and operational management competencies.
  • Health, Safety and Environment
  • Ensure all reasonably practicable steps are undertaken to provide a safe and healthy workplace through an understanding of the hazards and risks associated with the controlled workplace.
  • Establish risk measurement, audit protocols and operational risk tolerances.
  • Promote continuous improvement management and awareness of health and safety.
  • Proactively monitor and review any environmental risks and ensure safeguards are in place to mitigate risks and operational exposures.

About you:

  • Extensive manufacturing management experience, ideally with metal fabrication experience.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain or related technical discipline.
  • Proven production management, warehousing, quality, logistics and distribution experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of organisational effectiveness and business operations management.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Production Feasibility assessment principles.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the processes and machinery used for machining, laser cutting welding, powder coating and assembly is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to design and implement lean principles to drive continuous improvement and productivity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant WHS ACTS, Regulations and Codes of practice, including duties to consult, communicate and co-ordinate WHS matters.
  • Understanding and experience with both ISO9001 and ISO14001 is desirable.
  • Experience with international operations and supply chains (desired but not essential).
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Good attention to detail with a strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Strong people leader with the ability to coach and motivate a team towards high performance.

Recruitment Process:

During our recruitment process, you will be required to undergo pre-employment checks including a pre-employment medical, reference checks, national police check and Australian working rights check.

To Apply:

Please submit a cover letter outlining your suitability for the role along with your resume.
