The Department:
The Pharmacy service operates over 5 sites within Northern Health and has a strong vision to deliver exceptional, evidenced-based care to our patients - with a clear focus on research, medication safety and clinical excellence. We are currently undergoing a large period of expansion and specialisation, creating exciting opportunities for individuals keen to challenge themselves and progress their professional knowledge and skills.
The Role:
An opportunity exists for a Grade 4 - Chief Pharmacy Informatics Officer (CPIO) to join the team at Northern Health.
This role if fixed term full time until March 2023 (covering maternity leave) with a monthly Accrued Day Off
This role will become an integral part of our growing pharmacy workforce (which comprises of over 100 pharmacists and technicians) as we transition to EMR in September 2023. The successful applicant will work collaboratively and provide leadership to support the successful planning, implementation and ongoing success of the EMR and our virtual clinical platforms across Northern Health.
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Serve as a liaison between pharmacy, key stakeholders, EMR medicines management team and technical support
  • Provide leadership, advice and support for EMR medicines management decisions and virtual clinical platforms, including design and development
  • Actively participate and contribute to relevant governance committees and working groups surrounding EMR implementation and optimisation
  • Identify and escalate risks in the EMR and virtual space including critical analysis of risks and suggested controls to mitigate
  • Use medication safety principles to prioritise workflows in the build and optimisation phase to ensure the success and safety of the EMR and our virtual clinical platforms
  • Provide regular feedback to the Director of Pharmacy, Executive Sponsor for Pharmacy and Executive Director of Digital Health
  • Support development and update of medication related procedures and workflows to maximise EMR benefits
  • Communicate key projects to other clinical staff across Northern Health
  • Consultation with relevant stakeholders when developing or optimising EMR and virtual programs
  • Analysis of incidents related to EMR implementation and rollout, and act as a key member for incident reviews, providing system-based recommendations to prevent errors in future
  • Provide update to the pharmacy leadership team and relevant clinicians on the progress of the EMR implementation and rollout

To be successful in this role you will have:
  • A recognised degree in Pharmacy from an approved tertiary institution and hold full current AHPRA registration
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in hospital pharmacy
  • High level leadership, negotiation and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge and experience of information systems and technology
