Job description

This position involves but not limited to:

  • Organize department personnel and collect kill schedules.
  • Conduct prestart checks and organize chiller unloading based on kill schedules.
  • Calculate and verify refrigeration index (RI) and surface temperatures before unloading carcasses.
  • Perform pH and temperature measurements using probes and record data accurately.
  • Grade carcasses in accordance with AusMeat and MSA Standards, ensuring accurate data entry and ticketing.
  • Report abnormalities and equipment failures to supervisors or maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain records and conduct data logger procedures as required.

Ideally, preferred candidates will demonstrate: 

  • Previous experience in a similar role within the meat processing industry is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and proficiency in using grading equipment and data logging tools.
  • Ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, bending, and operating machinery. Must be comfortable working in a cold environment.
  • Relevant training or certifications in meat grading and food safety are advantageous.

About you:

As part of our team, you'll work 38 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, with the opportunity for additional Saturday overtime. We are currently seeking a dedicated Grader to join our team in the Chiller Department.The nature of this role demands a self-motivated, decisive person with a “can do” attitude, as is a history of excellent reliability, attendance, and timekeeping at work. We take pride in delivering quality workmanship that meets our customer specifications, so a commitment to this is essential.

Safety is our top priority, so you must be dedicated to working safely in line with policies, procedures, PPE, and work instructions. We value teamwork and adaptability, as well as a willingness to learn and take on additional responsibility, processes, and tasks. The ability to work within a cold storage environment and with raw meat products is required. Flexibility and a willingness to work overtime when required are also important.

To ensure you can safely fulfill the physical requirements of the role, you will need to participate in a functional capacity assessment, including drug and alcohol testing. Additionally, a skills assessment will be conducted.
