Job description

Global Advanced Metals is one of the world’s leading suppliers of Tantalite Concentrate.

We are committed to the responsible supply of Tantalite in all its forms and operate to high standards of sustainable supply and development. We also manufacture Tin metal.

Our Tantalite operations are vertically integrated from the processing of ore into concentrates, through to the manufacturing of Tantalite powder and metallurgical products for use in electronic components such as capacitors and semiconductors, additive manufacturing applications such as medical implants, and for other critical applications including aerospace and defence industries.

Our high quality Tantalite products enable more powerful electronic devices, greater safety and reliability in automobiles and greater fuel efficiency and longevity of aircraft engines.

We are looking for a graduate or junior metallurgist to join our team based in Greenbushes, Western Australia, commencing January 2024.  Working with our Metallurgical Superintendent and our Plant Metallurgist at Australia's only Tantalite producer and only Tin Smelter, this unique opportunity means that you will be more than just a number as your developing skills and knowledge will be essential for the successful operation of the business.

The Role - learning and contributing to:  

  • Monitor the day-to-day technical results of the processing plant and assist operations to optimise recovery.
  • Provide input into operating variable adjustments needed to achieve target outputs.
  • Effectively communicate plant performance feedback and changes to the plant to the operators as needed.
  • Learn and understand how to operate sections of the processing plant, including drying, gravity separation, magnetic separation, roasting and smelting.
  • Work with maintenance personnel to maximise plant operation.
  • Assist in production and shipment forecasting and budgeting to develop metallurgical accounting skills.
  • Communicate and work with accounting personnel.
  • Prepare technical reports and analysis of plant performance over different feed types and a range of plant circuits including Wet Circuit (Gravity Separation), Dry Circuit (Gravity/Magnetic Separation), Roasting and Smelter  Operations (Production of Tin Metal).
  • Liaise with maintenance, shipping, metallurgical and laboratory staff on issues of quality control, standards, production and shipping.
  • Develop and manage the preparation of streamlined data recording and reporting processes

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in metallurgy, chemical engineering or a minerals science related area.
  • Residentially based no further than one hour from Greenbushes WA.
  • Previous experience in the mining and processing of industrial minerals would be beneficial.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
