We are seeking expressions of interest for a permanent full-time Groundsperson to be recruited mid 2024.

Airport Development Group (ADG) owns and manages diverse infrastructure assets across the Northern Territory including airports, hotels, aviation, and commercial buildings. Investing, developing, and managing long term infrastructure to grow the Territory and Northern Australia.

The main focus of this role as Groundsperson is to assist with carrying out the day-to-day maintenance of airport grounds infrastructure at Darwin International Airport.

You will contribute to the safe operation of the airport through inspecting, reporting and monitoring the condition of the airside as well as assist with carrying out the day-to-day maintenance of airport grounds infrastructure at Darwin International Airport. A large component of this role will be general maintenance of the Airport grounds - mowing lawns, tree pruning and maintaining a safe and clean runway. 

The responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Assist with maintaining the airport airside and landside grounds and facilities, including but not limited to, mowing, painting, pavement maintenance, and general minor maintenance and civil works.
  • Using the equipment available to keep the grass to a satisfactorily height and grounds in good, neat condition.
  • Assist in escorting contractor’s airside.
  • Ensuring that all airside furniture is replaced/repaired as necessary.
  • Ensuring all road maintenance is carried out or reported.
  • Be able to react when on call to any emergencies, i.e.: spills.
  • Repaint airside lines as needed.
  • Ensure work is carried out in a safe manner.
  • Assist with monitoring and maintaining airport facilities to ensure CASA and Office of Transport Security compliance.
  • Maintain effective communications with clients, tenants, contractors, and agencies.
  • When required contribute to the safe operation of the airport(s) through inspecting, reporting, and monitoring of the operational condition of Alice Springs Airport (primarily) and Tennant Creek Airport (leave relief). 
  • Carry out Aerodrome Reporting Officer or Works Safety Officer functions as required. 
  • Respond to Aerodrome and Terminal emergencies in accordance with the Aerodrome Emergency Plan, the Transport Security Program, and the Terminal Evacuation Plan and other relevant publications.

To be successful in this role you must have:

  • Demonstrated ability to use various landscape and minor civil works machinery i.e., Commercial Ride-on Mowers, Whipper Snipper, Tractor/Slasher, Backhoe, Bobcat, Painting Machines and various Power Tools.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work constructively and effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Demonstrated initiative and a high level of motivation in land management.
  • Experience in the maintenance of minor infrastructure e.g., Signage, Pavements and Drains.
  • Ability to be put on a fortnightly call out roster.
  • NT Drivers Licence or ability to obtain.
  • Current HR Licence or the ability to obtain.
  • Hold or obtain an Airside Drivers Licence.
  • Hold or obtain a valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Good oral and written communication skills. 
  • Good level of computer literacy.
  • Eligibility to hold an Aviation Security Identification Card and pass a Australian Federal Police Check.
  • Be subject to the NTAPL Drug and Alcohol Management Plan and testing regime.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Knowledge of the general requirements of the NT Work Health and Safety (National Uniform Legislation) Act and Regulations.
  • Current NT Class MR licence.
  • Current NT Plant Operators licence for skid steer loader and backhoe.
